We know 918 VIPs will likely get first crack at the 982 Spyder. If so, then I'm wondering how far in advance of the car's intro will the 918 folks be contacted by Porsche, or, are they not informed of the car and offered it until after its official debut?

Below is the VIP notice the 918 folks were sent regarding the 981 Spyder. The last paragraph mentions the car's upcoming debut at the New York Auto Show which, to me, suggests that the VIPs were notified of the car before its official debut and announcement.

I don't know if 918 VIP's are bound by a confidentiality agreement or gag order precluding them from divulging any advance car information to which they become privy. If not, then perhaps we can expect to learn more about the car in advance of its intro from some VIP leaks?

Just noticed the word "unfiltered" is used no less than six times in what is a fairly brief document, including three times in the span of just two back-to-back sentences and twice in one sentence alone. God forbid any VIP labor under the misguided notion that the car is "filtered." Best to remind them: "True beauty needs no filter" (Porsche Marketing/PR Dept. working overtime on that one).

Coming in second, the words "pure," "purist," and "puristic" are used only three times.

Can't wait to see Porsche's communiqué to the VIPs regarding the 982 Spyder. Wondering which adjective will figure most prominently this time around. I'm betting on "race-bred" if the car turns out to be a GT product.

I know a little about that announcement since I posted the
VIP offer's pdf here on Rennlist. Here is the specific email
to the 918 VIP (my acquaintance) that accompanied that
pdf invitation...but which I did not post at the time:

Subject: 918 Spyder VIP Program - Boxster Spyder announcement

Dear Mr. ****,
True beauty needs no filter. Unfiltered.

It is my pleasure to offer you, per your 918 Spyder VIP privileges, the
opportunity to be among the first to acquire the new Boxster Spyder. I
have attached details below of this extraordinary Porsche for your
consideration.

I kindly request that you respond by Friday, April 10th, 2015 if you would
like me to reserve one for you. After this deadline, we cannot guarantee
that an allocation will be available.

(See attached file: 918 VIP Program - Boxster Spyder Information.pdf)

Kind regards,

The 2015 NY Auto Show opened to the public on April 3rd and ran
until April 12th of 2015. The first public announcement from Porsche
that the 981 Boxster Spyder would be premiere at the 2015 New York
International Auto Show was dated April 1, 2015 via this Press Release:

https://newsroom.porsche.com/fallbac...015-10147.html

***
So the fact is that the general public & 918 VIP members were notified of the
world premiere of the 981 Boxster Spyder on the same date - April 1, 2015.
So, if history is a guide, I do NOT expect that the 918 VIP members will be
officially informed of the debut of the next Boxster Spyder ahead of the public.
Hope that this additional bit of information helps the discussion, Suicide Jockey.

Saludos,
Eduardo

Depends. What's the most popular adjective in China at the moment?

Great info as usual, Eduardo. Thanks for the insight.

It doesn't surprise me that VIPs find out about a new car simultaneously with us mere mortals, otherwise the risk of a loose-lipped VIP spilling the beans would be too great.

I hope if you get wind of the 982 Spyder VIP notice you will post it here. I want to see if my "race-bred" prediction is spot on

Don't say I didn't warn you.

I would like to know how many people would pass on the Speedster for Spyder if offered both? I realize that both will probably hold their values. Speedster will cost more interest but may actually go up in value.

Spyder will still offer N.A. manual, and would be a great car to keep until the next one is built in another four years.

Speedster would probably be a better choice to buy and just keep being marketed as a timeless collectible.

Thoughts?

Speedsters will be bought like art, to be looked at and kept for investment. Spyders will be bought to be driven.

A Spyder is much better to look at, as well. The Speedster looks like Tanker.

So I have a 981 Spyder and a GT3 Touring. It’s fair to say the new Speedster is what you get if you combined the 2 into 1 car. And the price is about equal to the sum total of price of my 2 cars, as well (even higher with ADM).

Would I want a Speedster or the 2 cars I have? I’d rather have the Spyder and Touring than the Speedster. Touring has all the performance of Speedster (yet can be driven more reasonably in rain or on track), and Spyder has all the open top goodness and is lighter and more balanced. Having a choice of different experiences is better than having just the one.

And while both the Touring and Spyder aren’t cars you want to put tens of thousands of miles on as daily drivers, neither is so precious that they have to be garage queens like I suspect most Speedsters will be.
