982 GT4 Spyder?
#1561
model - all original (paint, top, interior) with 19K miles. And it set me
back a small fortune...$13K. Never had one back in the day. And I
could not resist (a few months ago) such an original sample at such
a low price!
And yes....there is no substitute for lower weight in a sport car...
whether a Mazda or a Porsche. Just saying. And in case anyone
is wondering, the original NA Miata (MY1990) curb weight was...
2,116 lbs!

Thats what happens now with Porsche debuts.... way too drawn out and boring. Liked it better when they kept things under wraps more (like the 987 & 981 Spyder... those were virtually never seen in public.)They don’t hide anything anymore. No more surprises.

Some of us indeed do want a Miata! I recently acquired a MY1990 NA
model - all original (paint, top, interior) with 19K miles. And it set me
back a small fortune...$13K. Never had one back in the day. And I

...........
It is just that I have not seen or heard anyone from Porsche AG, Porsche Motorsport or PCNA since
that date say anything that gives credence to the 'fact' that Porsche Motorsport was given responsibility to
develop the 982/718 Boxster Spyder as a GT product. Knowing how Porsche works, I think by now (some
four years later) someone would have given us a more recent 'hint', or speculated for the record, on that
very topic. Just saying.

Great choices! My vote goes to S2000! Ask me why!! If you like redlining first four gears without jail time and listening to sweet, organic (not manufactured!) soundtrack in the process, look no further!

Agree. I vividly remember hearing a 986 Boxster at full chat when he took off from a stop light. The sound was super cool. That was during the very first model year of 986. So, even in Bay Area, at that time, the Boxster was the cool thing to have for all the techies! I was on a wait list for more than a year; then switched the deposit to then-rumored S. So, I had to wait for about 3 years before I got the 986 S. It was worth it!

Beautiful NA! Congrats on the purchase.
There is an older woman around here that drives the cleanest NA I've ever seen. Her husband bought it brand new and gave it to her on their 30th wedding anniversary. She only drives it on Sunday. Has 13K miles on it. I gave her my phone number and email address and begged her to let me make the first offer if she ever decides to sell it. I don't ever expect to get a call.
Yup.
Not only did I cross shop the 981 Boxster and ND Miata in 2016, I bought a pristine 2001 Miata LS 6MT with 18K miles instead. 18 month later I bought my 981 GTS. 10 months after that I bought my 991.2 911.
I'm driving the Miata today.

I too cross-shopped Miata, Elise, and all Boxsters (including $100k+ 981 Spyder) for my recent backroads roadster purchase which ended up being a 987.1 Boxster S. Still can’t wipe the grin off my face each time I step on the loud pedal out of a turn.

I had a Miata (MX-5 in UK) for a while and loved it. Mk 2 S version with 1.8, LSD and slightly bigger wheels. Lovely spec. The funny thing was I bought it on a sunny day so didn't notice I was, at 6'3", too tall for it. You could see me on rainy days for the two years or so that I had it with my head making a slight bulge in the roof .

original Honda S2000 I would have bought it also.
Hard to beat a rev limiter that went all the way up
to 9250 as I remember!

Hope they do call you someday. When you come across a time
capsule car like this it's hard to pass up. Mine came with a LSD
from factory which is also a nice option to have. When you take
a look at the photos below, just keep in mind that this vehicle is
29 years old...and such an original paint & interior pristine example!

would choose a new Boxster over a new Miata. But if you can afford
to have a number of vehicles in your garage, there is a lot to be said
for the simplicity and smiles-per-mile offered by a Miata - NA, NB, NC
or ND models. Yet, I still have friends in my car group that refers to
the Miata as a 'hairdresser's car'.
had to rethink just a bit his early criticism of the model. He particular
praises the early NA model like the one I own. But he is still far from
a 'big' fan! Fair enough. At the end, he calls it a 'great roadster'.
