I love the 981 Spyder and it is still the best Boxster in the market. However, I think the 718 design is awesome, I like the front and rear, except the PORSCHE letters. 4 banger with massive increase in HP and torque are welcome news also. Great job Porsche.

The official microsite is up. It's got a lot of cool pics, info, and video + sound clips.

Crazy numbers for the entry level baby Porsche and we all know they under rate figures.
Guess they are trying to offset the cylinder downgrade with a noticeable boost in performance. This thing will be a beast with an exhaust and ECU flash.
Some pics of the standard model. Still not completely sold on the styling, but think it looks better in gray than orange.

The PORSCHE across the back is absurd. Have they made it impossible to remove?
Otherwise, I think it looks ok. Not trading my BGTS! but I'm sure they'll sell.
So is the Cayman now the bargain?

I think the rear looks better and the front looks more bland. Not a fan of the Porsche lettering on the wing at all, totally unnecessary.

Have you had a look at the Porsche's configurator webpage? 981 Boxster models, in particular the Spyder, are no longer available - only the new 718 is. I guess we all knew that already, but that's a kind of confirmation: no more allocations for the 981 Spyder, worldwide (I'm from France, and browsed on some European configurators for Porsche today, they all look the same).

The LED bars on the front bumper really look like an afterthought. They definitely took 2 steps backwards with this "update". Specifically the turbo motor and the front/rear look. I really hope sales tank for this model so Porsche can go back to the drawing board.

OK, I think I have cracked the code: Those who own a Boxster, whichever model, have decided the 718 is the Anti-Christ and/or ugly as sin. This will remain the prevailing opinion on this board and elsewhere until both new models outrun the absolute bejesus out of the 918, in which case the 718 will be regarded as the Second Coming and a roaring good deal as Porsches go.

With Porsche Design, Engineering, Quality and the increased HP, the 718 will sell and perform. I still would purchase one but I have a 2013 2.7l 981 and the sound is awesome, you just require a Track to really experience the car.
The Boxster S with SC and PDK will be 0.4 sec to 60 and 12 MPH top speed off the 991.2 C4S I have on order and about $40K less.
Unless you require AWD, it's a hell of a car in my opinion, rear deck excluded!-Richard
BTW, I know of no one the 'flashes' any newer Porsche.
