Apple CarPlay questions
Hello all,
I just picked up a '22 Spyder and am loving it. However, I haven't been able to get Apple CarPlay to work by plugging in my USB cable in the center console. I have Porsche Connect and it has been activated. I am a bit confused as to whether my car has CarPlay or not. According to Porsche all later 718 models come w/ CarPlay. However, I saw another Spyder at a dealer where the window sticker shows a "Apple CarPlay" option for around $560 (mine doesn't have that option). I also went on to the Porsche website to configure a Spyder and there's no option for Apple CarPlay, which suggests to me that it's standard.
Any ideas?
Thanks!!

That being said you can get someone to activate it for you with some simple programing. I believe there are some threads on this forum which tell you how to do it if you prefer to do it yourself.

Not necessarily standard on the '22. I also have a '22 Spyder (delivered in '21) and CarPlay was an option I had to pay for. I also couldn't get it to work, and come to find out the factory didn't install it even though it was on the confirmed build sheet. The dealer installed it about a week later, and it took them 8 hours of labor, so that was a costly mistake for Porsche. You need to look for the USB port in the center console. If you have a 12V outlet there instead, you don't have CarPlay.

Thanks for the info guys. So, yes, I do have the USP port in my center console but no Apple CarPlay. Sounds like my car didn't come with that option and the fix is more hardware than software :-(

@luvawatch If you have the center USB port, take a look at this thread. The AIO patch process enables CarPlay and AndroidAuto (as well as Navigation if you don't already have it). Also assuming that the USB port in your console is not broken...

Interesting, I have the USB port in the center console of my 2022 but have never plugged anything into it. The car was manufactured in March of this year. I'll have to see what I have installed.

FYI, since I don't have CarPlay, when I plug my phone into the USB port in the center console the system recognizes it as an iPod. So, I can still play music from my phone but it's just not CarPlay.

A couple of things to note
- Some of these systems are flaky as hell, and just because you haven't been able to use it doesn't mean it's not there.
- You also have to setup CarPlay on your phone. Settings/General/CarPlay/.
- The cable is EXTREMELY important. Safest bet is to get an Apple cable
- If you get it running, there are several brands of wireless dongles that give you wireless CarPlay, which eliminates having to plug the phone in and out every time
