A40 vs C40 Approved Motor Oil
#31
...so you have said but the Porsche compatibility chart indicates what I just said...A40 for the earlier models (pre 2019) is fine.
The issue may be something else....the 0-60 times for the newer Particulate filter 718's are 1/2 second slower (than the older models) as listed by Porsche so the problem may be a bit of starvation/lean fuel in the newer vehicles where deposits may cause more of an issue.
from another site post..new owner
"The USA Cayman S now lists a 0-60 manual time of 5.0 seconds (base at 5.6 seconds) – is that due to the particulate filter? So is that stupid thing now on my coming USA model despite the USA not (yet) mandating such nonsense? So a half second slower due to some Euro regulations? I hate government."

One other bone of contention.....all of the tuners, I believe to this point, have used non particulate filter cars to create their ECU upgrades...are the safety margins still relative?
This comment from the other 718 Forum....just FYI...not sure if this is right/wrong so some due diligence in order if concerned.
"My understanding is that the 2020 models arriving in the US will have the "fake" GPFs, i.e. the GPF shell with an inert insert to make the back-pressure the same as a functioning GPF. This allows Porsche to have a single tune world-wide. It wouldn't surprise me that this setup would be less optimal than the 2019's and earlier that don't have any variant of a GPF. To restore performance to 2019 levels you'd need both a new exhaust system that does away with the inert GPF, and a tune."

Got this off the corvette forums... worth noting re: X3 ESP..
-----
In Europe we have even two Dexos 2 certified Mobil1 0W40 oils:
1. Mobil1 ESP 0W40
https://www.exxonmobil.com/en/passen...sp-0w40/pds-de
2. Mobil1 ESP X3 0W40
https://www.exxonmobil.com/en/passen...x3-0w40/pds-de
Both have a Dexos2 certification, but the latter only has a Porsche certification.

Just bringing this back to life because today I went to my dealer here in Montreal and I talked with the shop foreman about the oil issues discussed here.
So I showed him all the documents I had about the A40 and C40 specked oils and he went to the parts room to see what he could dig up.
There are so many oils they can use but for the Cayman up to and including the 2018 MY and like it says in my owner's manual we must use the A40 specked oil, 2019 and on must use the C40/VW511 00 specked oil.
Anyway he had 1 litre containers of the C40 oil and here's a couple of pictures... notice the "not for retail sale" label on the container.

BUMP!
So after all of this we know the safe bet (warranty compliance) is Mobile 1 C40 ESP 0W40
Is this stuff popping up in the wild?
Any in Canada!

Just wait until it goes on sale at Walmart or Canadian Tire... That's what I do for the A40 version.

Anything more than $25 for a 5qt jug is robbery.
There’s plenty of A40 to be found. I am disturbed that C40 is not - apparently- backward compatible with A40 for insufficiently-transparent reasons. In the US with no GPF one might suspect that A40 would work fine. But the referenced incompatibility smells like there might also be a change to the matrix in the catalytic converters too. More info required. In the mean time we pay >> $5 per quart.
