First Porsche

What do you think is the best choice for an enthusiast’s debut Porsche?

If you’re in the market for some quality advice regarding anything Porsche, there’s no better place to go than the Rennlist forums. And if you’re in the market for your very first Porsche, well, the same holds true. So, self-proclaimed “new guy” nickemangione did just that, recently, posing the question to our resident experts.

The 27-year-old grew up admiring Porsches after inheriting the interest from his grandfather. He proclaims interest in a manual Cayman R, which is a solid choice, as thebrit86 confirms.

“I had a 2006 Cayman S (6 sp) as my first Porsche (I was sane age as you) and I couldnt recommend it more. Oversized go cart, with decent amount of practicality and refinement for daily driving. I just recently loved over to a 991 C4 as I needed AWD for the PNW. What gen are you looking for?”

997

But as eddielasvegas points out, there aren’t a ton of Cayman R’s around for purchase.

“Hello and Welcome Nick.

CR’s are out there but not common so search often and wide and you’ll find it.

Good luck,

Eddie”

Taking that into consideration, it might be more feasible to look for a gently used Cayman S or even a Boxster. Both are widely available for fair prices, which leaves plenty of meat on the bone for mods. If he wants to step up to a 911, there are some bargains to be found with early 997s and most 996 models.

Then again, he could decide to change his mind and go old school. The 912 offers plenty of balanced driving nirvana. The 928 and 944 offer up a bargain and great handling as well. But we (and the new guy) want to know – what model would you suggest? Head on over to the thread and dish out your expert advice for nickemangione and anyone else who might be considering their first Porsche purchase.
