Top 6 Porsche Models You Can Get on the Cheap Right Now

Porsche has always been a benchmark of performance and aesthetics, but can the average earner get one?

Brad Danger of YouTube’s Ideal Cars is a huge Porsche fan, so much so that he has two of them. Additionally, Danger thinks that just about anyone can snag one, if you know which ones to seek out. Here’s six affordable children of Zuffenhausen that Ideal Cars says can bring home without breaking the bank.

1. Porsche Boxster

The Boxster is regarded by many to be a “baby 911,” but Danger claims that it shouldn’t be dismissed quite so quickly. The Boxster features a light weight mid-engine design which makes it a promising canyon carver. That, and Danger is quick to point out that a decent example can be purchased for as little as $6,500.

2. Cayenne Turbo

If you need to move your family around, look no further. Depreciation has brought this family SUV into affordable territory, and it is a performer. In 2003 the Cayenne Turbo sprinted to sixty miles per hour in just five seconds. That is quick even by today’s standards.

3. 944 Turbo

When Porsche took the 944 and added a turbo and intercooler, they made a serious performer. With the newest models coming out in 1991, the 944 Turbo’s 220 horsepower is seriously respectable. Danger says that while values are rock bottom, they’re likely to rise again soon as the car confirms classic status.

4. Porsche 928

Who doesn’t love a set of pop-up headlights? The 928 combined pop-up headlights with Porsche’s first V8. The front-engine 928, despite rumors, never received a V10 due to a then in-progress oil crisis. Although the 928 first sold for around $80,000, an example today with less than 100,000 miles can be yours for less than $10,000.

5. Porsche 911 (996)

Ah, here it is, the car everyone wants. The 911 is a performance staple and a sought after car the world over. The 996 style, however, featured what Danger calls “scrambled egg” headlights, a style that was less than popular with purists. That, paired with the water-cooled engine in lieu of an air-cooled power plant, makes for a more affordable 911. Danger claims to have bought his for a little more than $19,000, with values likely to rise.

6. Porsche Cayman

The little Porsche Cayman may look like a shrunk down 911 sibling, but it is so much more than that. The mid-engine Cayman is light weight and designed to be a great driver’s car. Danger says it may even be a better driver’s car than several versions of 911. A preowned Cayman is affordable, too, with an example that Danger found going for around $15,000.
