Porsche owners consider best method for securing front license plate to a 992 911 and whether or not to run one at all.

We don’t have to tell you that putting a license plate on the front of a 911 is like putting lipstick on a pig. If we had it our way, it would never be necessary. Interrupting the beautiful design work with a soulless rectangle is insulting to many car designs and especially so on the iconic Porsche 911. However, many states will issue citations if you don’t have one. Rennlist users are to the rescue with their thoughts and solutions for owners facing unfortunate state laws requiring a front plate.

Rennlist user Austin GT posed the question in a recent forum post. He asks if anyone has used the RHO plate bracket, as it seems to be the only one that safely clears everything.

First to sound off on the subject is user Jfr0317, who has experience with the RHO bracket.

“Yes, I have. It works OK, but be sure to tighten all of the bolts and screws very securely to prevent it rotating from the desired alignment. I use US Millworks tow-hook mount plate holders on my 991 and 981 cars, and they are a bit more robust in design and construction, but they are incompatible with the parking sensor location on the passenger side of a 992,” he says.

His review doesn’t seem that enthusiastic. It is a bit unfortunate that better options are incompatible, but the RHO bracket seems it is functional, at least. That is all well and good, but what are the alternatives?

User Sf-911 offers a solution that is new to us.

“Has anyone used License Plate Wrap? It looks like it would end up being too high due to the plastic bar on the bumper,” he says

The License Plate Wrap is a genius vinyl replacement for a front license plate. However, it seems it is only legal in the state of California at the moment. If you are in California, though, this definitely is something worth looking into. Though, the 992 front bumper doesn’t offer a whole lot of placement options. Still, it is something to consider for California 992 owners.

User Dhirm5 recommends the method we’re all thinking, though.

“Guys, skip the front plate. I haven’t had an issue in over 10 years in the dc metro area,” he says

It is an entirely fair thought. Some states are very stringent about their front plate law. However, some states with the law are full of cars running no front plate, and police couldn’t care less.

If you have any suggestions on front plate mounting, chime in on the Rennlist Forum. We all know nobody is actively looking to drill holes in their brand new bumper!
