Rare 911 Turbo S ‘918 Spyder Edition’ Heading to Mecum Auction
2019 Mecum Houston Auction will be held from April 4-6 at the NRG Center in Houston, TX.
A 2012 Porsche 911 Turbo S “918 Spyder Edition” (coupe) will be auctioned at the event. The sports car up for sale has black exterior paint, and also black interior. Additionally, it has covered over 13,000 miles.
The Turbo S “918 Spyder Edition” is equipped with a 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine that generates 530 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired to a 7-speed PDK transmission. The Turbo S can sprint from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.1 seconds and has a top-speed of 195 mph.
As its name suggests, some of the styling elements of this special-edition 911 Turbo are inspired by the design of the 918 Spyder hypercar.
“[This is] the only Porsche in history that required the purchase of another for eligibility. Production was originally intended to be offered to all 918 [Spyder] buyers, but only the earliest 918 buyers were actually offered to purchase due to the production switching to the 991,” Mecum Auctions writes in the car’s brochure. Indeed, Porsche built only 121 units of the Turbo S “918 Spyder Edition”. Of those, 78 units featured a coupe body style, and 43 units featured a convertible body style.
All said, Mecum Auctions has not disclosed the presale estimate for this unit.
