930 Slantnose

Galpin Porsche Santa Clarita team transformed a fire damaged wreck of a 930 Slantnose into a totally gnarly show car.

The Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge sees Porsche dealerships across the country take a neglected classic Porsche and restore it to its former glory. The transformation that these cars go through is truly incredible. But in 2023 the Galpin Porsche Santa Clarita team raised the bar to another level.

They took a fire and corrosion damaged 1988 Porsche 930 Turbo Slantnose and made it into a rad era showpiece. As if a 930 Slantnose is not rad enough already this one has a custom Rubystar paint job and an interior finished in turquoise, with black and white pasha inserts. It is the perfect car to take to see Who Framed Roger Rabbit down at your local drive-in.

The finished 930 Slantnose was revealed during the Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge at the Werks Reunion in Monterey, California. The car walked away with the People’s Choice and Kids’ Choice awards. It only takes one quick look to understand why. “This project is the most ambitious build we’ve created for the Porsche Classic Restoration challenge.

Despite starting off with fire damage and corrosion, we were able to transform it into a period-correct Porsche on the exterior and interior while making the performance simply terrifying,” said Beau Boeckmann, President and Chief Operating Officer for Galpin Motors. “Our goal with this Slantnose was to bring it back to the original generation while incorporating our own unique Galpinized design.”

Besides the fabulous paint this car was fitted with the rare X83 Flachbau factory body kit. This kit was available only in Japan. The racing stripe that augments the Rubystar paint was inspired by the Porsche 75th anniversary color patterns.

On the inside is a rebuilt instrument cluster that matches the new color scheme. Comfort touches include an updated climate control system as well as a custom Blaupunkt stereo system. The car looks incredible inside and out. But it also has the performance to back up the bold new look.

Mechanical Upgrades

Under that huge rear spoiler is a 3.5L turbocharged engine that can produce upwards of 850 horsepower. Other upgrades include a custom oil cooler system and a rebuilt transaxle with a limited slip diff and a cooler.

Helping to keep all this power on the road are suspension upgrades that include 997 GT3RS rear components. MCS coilovers are also part of the build. Custom turquoise painted HRE wheels are wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. This car has the show and the go.

Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge 2023

For 2023 the Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge is going to incorporate a major change. That change is that there will be three categories this year. Those categories are: Preservation, Restoration and Individualization.

You can probably guess the category this 930 Slantnose belongs to. With this new system, there will be three winners crowned this year. Just in case you needed yet another reason to attend Rennsport Reunion 7, this year’s national finals will be held at, and awarded, during that event.
