Porsche 992 GT3 Pricing Is Out of Control; Consider These Porsche GT3 Alternatives Instead

992 GT3

The 992 GT3 is amazing, but not $350K amazing. Dealer markups are making some other Porsche models more attractive GT3 alternatives.

The 992 GT3 is a brilliant car. This article is not meant to suggest anything to the contrary. If you can get one at or near MSRP, they are worth every penny. However, today most are weighed down with ludicrous asking prices. If you look online for an available GT3 prices range from $75K to $150K over original sticker. A GT3 for close to $350,000 is just stupid. If you have a 9-figure balance in your checking account, then I guess you don’t care what the price is. And, good for you! But for those of us who have more of a reality-based budget, paying that kind of money for a basic GT3 makes no sense. Especially when you consider what GT3 alternatives you can get for that healthy $350,000 car budget.

I am going to lay out why, at least my opinion, you should walk right past a $350K 992 GT3. And I will also list several attractive Porsche models you can buy if you have your heart set on spending that amount of money. And I will try not to even mention the Z06-sized elephant in the room. You could grab a Z06 that will at least keep up with the GT3 on any track. AND a nice Carrera S to keep your PCA membership active for what some folks are asking for a 992 GT3. Sure, the Z06 will likely also deal with markups but they won’t be $350K. Oops, I guess I mentioned the Z06.

Look, Z06 and other vehicles aside, I am a Porsche enthusiast through and through. I have been a member of PCA for nearly twenty years. In fact, I am the Vice President of my local region. I have been to the Porsche factory and museum in Germany. Just about every book written on Porsche is in my personal library. I own a 2018 911 Turbo S. And I write for Rennlist. I think it is safe to say that I am a fan. So, it is very unusual for me to suggest that someone not buy the latest GT3. But based on what I am seeing, I just can’t recommend it over some other brilliant Porsche sports cars.

The Market

All cars are overpriced right now. I get it. But even if I had all the money in the world, I think I would be sick to my stomach if I just handed $100K+ in cash to a dealer just because they happened to have a car on their lot. A 992 GT3 is great for sure. But $350K great? Sorry, no. I built a very nice GT3 on the configurator and the price was less than the sticker on my 2018 Turbo S. For less than 200 grand the GT3 is terrific. But slapping a 6-figure ADM on top is just insulting. Despite what folks might think the GT3 is not that rare.

A quick search on Autotrader showed that there are currently 56 2022 GT3 cars for sale in the U.S as of this writing. For context there are 24 2018 911 Turbo S cars for sale. My car is twice as rare. I guess I should sell it for $700K! All kidding aside, it is not like a 992 GT3 is unobtanium. They are out there. And most have fewer than 1,000 miles. Which is also sad. If these cars are so great, why are so many dumped when so new? Easy. MONEY. Not a single one of these super low mile GT3 cars listed for sale were bought by an enthusiast. If they were, they would still be driving it. They were bought by people looking to make a quick buck. That sucks. And the only way for us enthusiasts to get back at them is to not pay these stupid prices.
