Singer Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance

There were several special Porsche vehicles at the 2023 Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance but this reimagined 911 is extra special.

The Porsche hits just kept on coming at the 2023 Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance. There were rare race cars, incredible street cars, and one of a kind custom builds. And you can’t talk custom Porsche builds without mentioning Singer. As you probably already know Singer “restores and reimagines” classic Porsche 911 models, mostly from the 964 era. Each one is a stunning work of art that will cost you seven figures to put in your garage. But looking at one doesn’t cost anything and luckily for us one of these beauties was on display on Rodeo drive recently.

The Singer car you see here is built from a 1990 911. It appears to be from the Singer Dynamics & Lightweighting Study (DLS) line. In the words of Singer the cars in this line attempt to answer one question. “What if Singer evolved that iconic Porsche DNA further, using knowledge born from the world of Formula 1?” The answer of course is that they would produce one of the most stunning custom 911 builds that the world would ever see.

Show Car

Every car that Singer works on is a custom commission built to the specifications of the buyer. The car on display at the Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance did not have much in the way of details available. We know it was built from a 1990 911 and that is about all for sure. But by looking a bit more closely we can pick up a few more details. For example, this car took some inspiration from the 1972 911. 1972 was the only year the Porsche 911 had an oil filler lid located externally behind the passenger side door. But as you can clearly see here this 911 reimagined by Singer has that unique feature. Other beloved Porsche 911 features included here are the wide fenders, ducktail spoiler, and Fuchs-style wheels.

Singer DLS

We don’t know the exact specifications of the car on display but last year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 Singer debuted the Sebring Commission DLS car. That car was built as an homage to the 718 RS 60 Spyder that won the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1960. That car was powered by a 4.0L, naturally aspirated, air-cooled flat six, with ram-air intakes.

It was developed in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering. It makes 500 horsepower and revs to over 9,000 rpm. Magnesium center-lock wheels covered the Brembo CCM-R carbon ceramic braking system lurking behind. A custom double-wishbone front suspension and lightweight rear suspension were also part of the package. Based on what we can see on the Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance car, it seems to have a similar spec to the Sebring Commission.

Singer Future

The next big thing coming from Singer is their Turbo Study cars. Announced last year, these cars were inspired by the game changing Porsche 911 Turbo launched in 1975. So naturally these Turbo Study cars will be powered by a turbocharged engine.

The first of these featured a 3.8L, twin turbocharged flat-six with air to water intercooling. It was good for 510 horsepower and was connected to a 6-speed manual transmission. Maybe at the 2024 Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance we will get to see one of those parked on the street.
