Gorgeous Porsche 964 911 Carrera RS sports only 15,000 miles and pulled in bids north of $300,000 on Bring A Trailer.

The Porsche 964 911 Carrera RS is a remarkable vehicle that stands out as a hardcore, track-dedicated variant of the iconic 911 sports car. Porsche engineers left no stone unturned in their quest to create a lightweight, high-performance machine that could deliver unparalleled driving thrills on track and windy roads alike. With every extra ounce of weight meticulously shaved off, the 911 Carrera RS is a stripped-down, no-frills version of the beloved 911 that demands the utmost skill and attention from its driver. As a result, it remains one of the most sought-after and highly-regarded models in Porsche’s storied history.

Recently, a 1992 Carrera RS went up for auction on the popular online platform Bring A Trailer. Despite generating significant interest and a high bid of $350,000, the vehicle did not meet its reserve and was not sold. However, comments from the seller report that the car did, in fact, sell. Given that it sold outside the auction platform, though, we don’t know how much it actually brought in.

What makes the Carrera RS different from a standard 964 911?

The Carrera RS has a party trick in the form of weight savings. A glance at the thin bucket seats only gives you a peak into the story, though. Look closely throughout the interior, and you’ll note that there are no power windows, and the extremely thin door cards have bare door pull straps. Inside the doors, you’ll find glass thinner than that of standard 964 windows, too. Finally, to top it all off, the Carrera RS has no air conditioning or sound deadening.

All of those efforts, combined with the seam-welded chassis and 17-inch magnesium cup wheels, equate to a car that comes in nearly 300 pounds lighter than a standard 964 Porsche 911.

Taking those weight savings and blending them with the 256 horsepower M64/03 flat-six and its accompanying five-speed manual transaxle with a limited-slip differential ensures this mighty little 911 will dominate any corner you put in front of it. Just to be sure, though, Porsche included race-tuned shocks, adjustable anti-sway bars, and dropped it 40mm to make it the ultimate track weapon.

Don’t Expect This Track-Bred Beauty on a Track Any Time Soon

Sadly, as is often the case with these types of collector cars, it will likely never be used to its full potential. This is especially true considering this particular example’s low mileage. Instead of a racing-ready monster ready to take its new owner on the ride of a lifetime, it’s more likely to be a conversation piece in a personal collection of high-dollar cars.

Sad, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Still, it’s great to get a chance to see such a pristine example of a rare and beautiful car.
