Mission E and GT2 RS: Porsche Dream Date

GT2 RS and Mission E

Porsche arms its Weissach test track with both a Mission E and GT2 RS for a select — and very fortunate — group.

Soon, a small, lucky group of individuals will take possession of Porsche’s most insane creation ever – the GT2 RS. Not too long after that, the brand’s very first all-electric vehicle, the Mission E, will hit dealership floors. These two cars are significant not only for their individual achievements, but for their stark differences as well. To demonstrate the two very different approaches to the future of performance, Porsche allowed a select few to drive both at their Weissach test track recently.

Obviously, this wasn’t your average test drive. Getting behind the wheel of Porsche’s one-off Mission E concept requires nothing less than approval from the board directors. With less than 200 miles on the odometer, the car also comes equipped with a traveling maintenance crew to tackle any beta issues that might pop up. And yet, this is a fully functional ride, not some car show mockup.

So what does the future of performance feel like? According to Automobile, pretty darn good. “The steering is sharp, the suspension inspires confidence, the tires stick, the brakes are more than merely competent, and the solitary electric motor kicks butt up to 75 mph. From what we can tell so far, Porsche’s first all-electric vehicle will not compromise driving pleasure.”

The current state of Porsche performance, however, is no slouch either. The GT2 RS, the most powerful Porsche to date, requires a bit of finesse to drive. Automobile calls flooring the gas pedal “a challenge that requires the complete attention of all your senses.” And yet, “it begs to be whipped—hard,” rewarding those who dare push it to the limits with “handling balance [that] becomes so sweet and subtle it gives you the chills.”

In summary, it looks like the future of Porsche performance holds a ton of promise. But in the meantime, we get to enjoy perhaps the most capable car the legendary automaker has ever built. What a time to be alive!
