Landlord Threatens to Evict Porsche 928 from Rennlister’s Property

Porsche 928

Rennlister obviously loves his Porsche 928, but it’s a little worse for wear. So, should he keep it or let it go to a new home?

We all know the drill. Pay your rent/mortgage, or face the dreadful retaliation known as eviction. But those of us who have project cars also know the other threats that exist to those precious rides in regards to real estate. You see, not everyone shares our enthusiasm for fine automobiles. Whether it be pesky homeowner’s associations, nosy neighbors, or ruthless landlords. And the latter of that evil group is threatening to evict Rennlist member The Steve‘s Porsche 928 from his property as we speak.

“I’ve owned an ’84 Porsche 928 since 1996. It is covered up and hasn’t run since around 2000. It has a couple of sidewall-rotted flat tires. I’m in a real pinch to just find some wheels (inflated tires on rims) from a junkyard that will fit well enough on the car to just roll it around. The parking lot where it has been stored is scheduled to be paved. Can anyone recommend a common make/model that shares something close to the same bolt pattern? I don’t want to lose it. Or go through the hassle of removing the wheels and getting new tires put on.”

Sounds like a real dilemma indeed. But thankfully, lots of Rennlisters come through with suggestions to help the OP save his beloved Porsche 928.

“Since you have to jack it up anyway, why not just do so and take the two wheels to your tire guy and see if he has a pair of used 16 inch tires that he will mount for you for cheap?” said Jerry Feather.

Fellow member Bureau13 even offers to help, before he realizes that’s a problem, geographically speaking.

“I’ve got a set of flat dish wheels from my ‘86.5 with tires that I would sell cheap. But from your profile picture, it doesn’t look like you’re in South Florida.”

Wisconsin Joe notes that the OP should be able to find some wheels pretty cheaply and easily. But then again, he also believes there’s a better way.

“Bolt pattern is 5×130. Common to a lot of VW and Audi, IIRC. For actually driving, you want offsets above ET50. For just rolling it around you can likely get away with a lot lower numbers. The tires will just stick out of the fenders. I’d try a junkyard to see if they have any wheels with ‘usable’ (not necessarily ‘road worthy’) tires on them. But ya know, if it was running and driveable, this wouldn’t be a problem. Just sayin'”

Turns out, the OP knows what’s wrong with the car and has been meaning to fix it. Which is a problem we’re all familiar with. Unfortunately, he also hasn’t been able to secure a garage to keep it in. Thus, this Porsche 928 has quickly degraded.

Regardless of its sentimental value, it now looks like other members might have talked the OP into selling his beloved Porsche 928. So be sure and head over here to see how this interesting story pans out!
