After sitting out a year waiting for their new car, the factory Porsche team, Manthey World Endurance Championship, has finally found a successor to their 911 RSR: the 2017 GTE/GTLM 911.

In a tweet on Friday, Porsche Motorsports unveiled the new GTE-spec endurance racing 911: “1st look at our #newporsche, the 2017 GTE/GTLM car. Rollout at Weissach completed. Now testing phase starts.”

They also shared the photos below, including a couple shots of the GT Le Mans racer getting tested at the Weissach proving grounds.

As far as what’s pushing this thing, we’re not sure yet. The outgoing 911 RSR uses the flat-six from the 997-generation 911. But Jalopnik‘s wondering if perhaps we’ll see “a tweaked version of the flat-six engine used in their latest 991-generation road cars.” One of our forum members, Macca, even brought up the idea that the engine might be boosted, based on the fact that Porsche didn’t release any info on the engine, or pics of the rear. Perhaps their still painting it?

They’d better hurry up though, considering the 2017 season is just around the corner, and the back of the car will be prominently featured, for all those giving chase. The car’s first race will be of the endurance variety at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January, where the Porsche North America team will actually debut the car. The Manthey squad will just have to wait till their season starts a little later in the year.
