eBay Seller Takes Down Million Dollar Porsche 911 R Listing

Porsche 911 R

When I pitched this story yesterday, I was super excited to lead in guns blazing, and lay into the guy listing his 911 R, a car that isn’t even out yet, for a million bucks on eBay. But it appears I’m too late.

Not long after Jalopnik took note of the suspicious eBay listing, the ad, which was generated from Hamburg, Germany, got taken town. (And not long after reading the word “Hamburg,” I got hungry.)

Perhaps the seller thought it best to rethink that “buy it now” price of $1.25 million dollars? And maybe that $225k upfront deposit may have seemed a bit steep.

Or perhaps the seller wanted to wait until July, when he expects his 911 R — one of 991 examples that Porsche is making — to actually get delivered. Maybe he wanted to wait to repost the ad so as to include a few photos of the stripped-down, driver’s 911. Certainly those would help garner such a high bid.

Or maybe the seller (if he really does have an R on order) realized he was being just a bit over-aggressive with how in demand the car will be. Sure, all 991 are already spoken for (and reportedly have been since the car debuted), but still, the Porsche 911 R “only” costs $185,950 MSRP.

So yeah, five times that amount, with zero appreciation time, seems a bit high.
