Wrecked 992 Porsche 911 GT3

Owner of this 992 Porsche 911 GT3 was out enjoying Tail of the Dragon when tragedy struck.

The proverbial paint is barley dry on the 992 Porsche 911 GT3, the latest version of everyone’s favorite variant. Perhaps the last true iteration of the purist Porsche, the 992 911 GT3 is every bit as good as we had hoped, offering up a satisfying driving experience with plenty of naturally-aspirated power and an unmatched sound. Thus far, the 992 Porsche 911 GT3 has obviously been a big hit with consumers, making it difficult to obtain one. As such, we can’t even begin to imagine how the owner of this particular example felt after he was out for a cruise when the car suddenly met its maker after a truck crossed the center line, leaving the Porsche driver with no time to react.

The whole thing was captured on film by a Reddit user who goes by SMHingMyHeadBro, and it’s obviously a bit painful to watch, even though it isn’t our car. Traveling in a pack of other Porsches, the GT3 is coming around a corner when it happens upon the truck, which is crossing the double yellow lines to a pullout, according to the person that posted the video. There’s simply nowhere to go, and even the GT3’s massive brakes aren’t enough to stop it in time before it smashes into the big white pickup, doing quite a bit of damage in the process.

We do get a glimpse of the aftermath, which shows that the purple Porsche’s front end is smashed up pretty badly. It’s unclear if this damage is fixable, but it certainly doesn’t look good. However, there is a bit of a plot twist to this story – the car is actually owned by mega-popular YouTuber Adam LZ, who obviously made a video explaining everything that happened.

This particular incident occurred in a familiar place – the famous Tail of the Dragon, a stretch of road at the North Carolina and Tennessee state line that enthusiasts enjoy for its many, many sharp curves and beautiful scenery. As he was coming around the corner, Adam obviously saw the large Chevy pickup completely in his lane, but it was too late. The aftermath caused the airbags to deploy, though thankfully neither the driver nor his passenger were injured.

It’s an ugly scene for certain, and a sad day for both Adam and those of us that covet a new GT3. However, as many of us are also aware, the popularity of Tail of the Dragon can also make it a bit dangerous, as it’s often crowded with folks driving all different kinds of speeds, which has led to many wrecks over the years. Thus, if you want to get out and enjoy it, it’s best to do so at slower traffic times or at slower speeds, though the latter sort of defeats the purpose of going there in the first place.
