Attempted theft of my Macan
Hi all,
Sadly I was recently targeted by thieves who tried to steal my MY19 Macan that I've only had for a month.
They casually walked up to my car and unlocked it. The guy had something in his pocket that he was pressing on to lock/unlock. They used an angle grinder on my disklok. They ran away as police came by very quickly. I have no idea how he's managed to copy any signal from my keys as they're kept in a Faraday Box at all times. I do not have keyless entry and require to use the fob to start the engine. I've seen Toyota and lexus cars get hacked by accessing the headlights - is this something that can be done on Porsche too? I can't see any damage to my car (thankfully).

Please follow up on this. I would like to know how they
made entry into your car.
What security upgrade would prevent this ?

I have a Ghost Immobilizer fitted so they wouldn't have been able to start the car without knowing the pin even if they attempted to create a key using t e OBD port, but I'm annoyed at how they have been able to get in in the first place - there is no sign of tampering/damage. Paranoid about parking my car anywhere now.

No $#!+! I think that's the question on everybody's mind here.
There have always been places in the world where you just don't want to park a nice car, and there always will be such places. Sounds like OP lives in one of those places. If you have to use all that crap to keep your car from being stolen, then the only real antitheft strategy is to move.

Was this at your house or at a parking lot? The thieves purchase a box for a few hundred that can intercept the key fob's signal and copy the code. If at a parking lot they're probably waiting for expensive cars to come in.

Keeping the keys in a box won't do anything. 1) The box is probably nowhere near as well-shielded as advertised; 2) These systems work by capturing the signal when you lock and/or unlock the car. The thief stashes a receiver within a few dozen feet of the victim's car, it captures the data, and then the thief uses offline tools to generate a clone signal.
Solution: move, or...

Can I ask if you installed the Autowatch Ghost 2 – Tassa Verified yourself or had someone else do it for you? Between the AMG GTC and my Macan, I'm seriously thinking about this. Note: Wayyyyy back in the 60's my dad installed a simple toggle switch under the dash. You could turn the engine over until the battery died, but you'd never start it. Technology today calls for more drastic tactics and money...

We drive down to the Bay Area 4x/year.
Used to take Wife's guano crazy lib friend to lunch. Last time we went to the Presidio because I didn't like her neighborhood.
She used to say "I love my mayor and governor", then it got too much for her and she moved.
Last time I had to go to SF was for passport renew. I flew down and took Uber everywhere.

Sorry every just caught up on all the messages!
This happened outside my house.
I'm located in the outskirts of London - lovely neighbourhood and people hence why it's such a target. It's like this across the UK sadly, if you want something nice you have to accept someone will damage or attempt to steal your car at some point. Every day normal cars also get stolen too, they try it with anything. Nearly every driveway has telescopic bollards now, which is what I'm getting done very soon.
Moving to a gated community would be a nice solution but incredibly expensive in London.
My ghost immobilizer was professionally installed - works great however I'm thinking to upgrade my alarm to Pandora for extra security, worth checking out!

I've been doing some research and it's likely this tool was used to copy my car key signal. Surely this means we are all better off opening and closing our cars with the manual key. Check out the video, it's so easy to do!
