Stored Away for 25 Years, Rare Porsche Resurfaces

911 Carrera RSR

Pristine 1993 911 Carrera RSR with six original miles up for grabs. Dust and dirt included.

For most of us, it’s impossible to fathom buying an incredible car and immediately stowing it away in storage. For almost 25 years, never driving it once. But that’s exactly what the owner of this incredibly rare 1993 911 Carrera RSR did, and now he’s offering it up for sale at the RM Sotheby’s Villa Erba auction next month. We’re guessing the 25 years of dust will only up the price.

This particular RSR is one of only 51 built, and one of only two with a full interior. Because this was intended to be a turn key race car, you see. Yet this one never saw a track, or any sort of pavement. It still sports the factory applied Cosmoline rust protection. And shows a mere 10 kilometers on the odometer.

The 911 Carrera RSR featured the wide body of the 911 Turbo, but used a naturally aspirated 3.8 liter flat six for power. The dry sump engine produced a factory rated 350 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque, which was likely underrated. Regardless, it was good enough for an impressive 3.7 second sprint to 60 miles per hour. Which was quicker than a Ferrari F40, by the way.

The RSR’s that did make it to the racetrack enjoyed some impressive success. They racked up class wins at LeMans, Daytona (taking spots 1-4), and Sebring. Overall victories came at Spa 24 Hours, Suzuka 1000 KM, and 24 Hours of Interlagos.

Yet all that time, this particular Polar Silver Metallic RSR sat unused. Even though the owner ordered it with interesting specifications like that blazing Can Can Red leather that covers everything from the roll cage to the headliner. Not to mention the purple wheels and gold brake calipers.

Regardless of those eccentric options, this 911 Carrera RSR is a truly special car. It’s sure to bring big bucks at auction, and rightfully so. Now we just hope that the new owner will resist the urge to give it a wash upon delivery.
