Mission E and 959 Mashup Is Retro Design Perfection

Mission E 959

Russian designer renders modern iteration of the 959, dubbed ‘959 E.’

One thing you can never say about Porsche is that they don’t pay homage to the past with every one of their designs. After all, their basic design language has amazingly stuck around for decades. Each new Porsche that rolls off the line looks like a Porsche, despite a host of differences. That seemingly impossible task is part of their genius, plain and simple.

The same holds true for the Mission E. The all electric model looks like something out of a sci-fi movie, yet it’s also instantly recognizable as a Porsche. But as great as it looks, what would happen if Porsche went full-on retro with the design? What if they decided to go less-than-subtle and include heavy styling influences from one of their greatest models of all time? Like the legendary 959?

Now we know exactly what that would look like, courtesy of Russian designer Aksyonov Nikita. Nikita obviously saw the lineage between these two cars and decided to turn it up a notch. The result, which he dubbed the “959 E,” is quite simply stunning. It’s essentially what could easily be a modern iteration of the 959.

Given the fact that the Mission E incorporates many styling elements that we will (and already are) seeing on other Porsche models, the idea makes a lot of sense. Especially in Nikita’s other rendering, which melds the styling of the Mission E with the 718 Boxster. And like the 959, we kinda like it. A lot. Even if it does make us want for a new 959 even more.
