I've had so much Cayenne engine interest that I added a Cayenne engine rebuild class to my 2015 hands on schedule..

That said setting cam timing is easy. You will need the Porsche special tools, which are both fitted simultaneously with the engine at TDC and the chain tensioner installed. The long timing chain makes things difficult and you may have to try the settings 10+ times to correctly allocate the cams so valve timing deviations don't occur.

No Worries, I bought them from Porsche, 182$

The Crank Pulley seal with installation sleeve was $300...

Here is an updated pic.

Need to install the tensioner and time the cams and I'll be on my way I suppose...

Looking for recommendations for Break-in oil for this thing... Jake?

Thanks again for the help along the way. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now, I think...

Regards,

Jonathon

Make sure you check cam timing over and over after rotating the engine at least 17 times. Only rotate the engine clockwise, rotating CCW even a few degrees will impact the procedure. This is due to the single chain tensioner and the very long chain.

I usually have to correct timing 5-6 times before I am happy with it.

As for break in oil, use Joe Gibbs BR30 and run it 300 miles.

Happy to help... Also, pump the tensioner up in warm thin oil as tight as you can get it. This is a secret that takes a while to learn.

Glad to see you tackle this.

Well, without too much stress and difficulty, I was able to successfully install the tensioner and time the cams!

Many thanks to this forum and Jake for help along the way. This is a big milestone for me so I am very happy right now.

I have to order some more o-rings again, so that I can re-install the oil-water heat exchanger with oil filter. Then I can install idler, water pump, alternator, a/c compressor, p/s pump, headers, coolant pipes, RMS, little cover plate, fly wheel, etc etc etc!

The light is getting brighter at the end of the tunnel...

Cheers
