I am looking further into the yellow 996 in Florida. Has anyone seen this happen on a 996? It looks like the engine cover was slammed down a bunch to get it to latch? The carfax is clean but it seems like a decent amount of force would be needed to get this to crack.

first of all, never trust CarFax. Ever. Ours has 5 accidents on it, all went through insurance, 2 had police involved, 0 show up on history reports for it.
If this pic is showing the area I think it is, the lid would have to be mangled to do that kind of damage.
Make sure you have that looked at by a good body shop. My bet is that it has indeed been in an accident and it was poorly repaired.

I agree with gnat. Although it doesn't look bad, it apparently took a hit in the back and the repair job was shabby to say the least.
The weight of the rear light enclosure would never cause such a crack. Maybe the owner backed into something? Again, doesn't look serious, but I'd closely examine the engine compartment for residual damage. The crack can be easily repaired at a body shop. If I bought that car, I'd immediately paint that section to prevent the spread of rust, which is a car's form of cancer. If it starts, it can cost thousands to remove and repair.

The milage is a massive red flag here. It doesn't list the actual milage, just what the current ODO says. Also seems to imply that a Porsche dealer replaced it with a used unit (the mention that they noted the milage difference)? I don't buy that as I have yet to meet a dealer that will let you supply parts (especially ones as lucrative for them as the cluster). So if it was done by a dealer I would expect a new cluster and they could have reset the milage in the new cluster to match the current.
This car has a story and I suspect it's not a good one...

Agreed. It was a quick find and post.....
30k is well under market for a TT, even a high mile Tip.

Run the VIN in carfax or autocheck and that will reveal a lot to this story. The car has been through many auctions. The last auction only bid up to $25K and the owner passed on the sale. Obviously, the car has a major black eye with the discrepancy in the true mileage. It wouldn't surprise me that this car has more than three times the posted figure of 30K.

Daniel Jacobs' Hairy Dog Grrrage, in Oxford, came recommended to me by my local shop (Automotive Associates, in Canton) when I was looking for a PPI downstate.....its a bit far from Stamford, but mebbe the owner will work with you?

I think the asking price is way too high for this 2003 C4S even with the low miles (13,000) but I'd love everyone's input. Keep in mind no IMS fix.

This is either a scam or a complete idiot seller.
