So, this one was a contender as my next 996.... But they sold it on Saturday. It had been listed for MONTHS!!!!!

https://www.carsforsale.com/vehicle/details/23049729

Carfax showed it racked up a whopping 9700 miles in it's first 12 years of life, then another 80k over the last five.

Gotta admit I'm kind of bummed to miss out on this one, but at least I don't have to go to Miami for it.

I kept looking at that one on Autotrader over the last few weeks. It was tempting.

Why? Unless you could get it for a song, you're going to go deeply into your pocket for analysis and repair, more than likely. I am sure you can find better. Just because Jake touched it 7 years ago doesn't mean someone hasn't treated it like a rented mule since.

For the right price!
It may be worth a talk with Mr Big to get his thoughts, then a PPI and take it from there...

Well Jake indicated failed IMS was the reason for the rebuild. Mechanical work is ranging from $2K - $12K. The top end is capped by Jake...really nice of him to do that.

I'm with 808 - to have a 3.8L 40AE from Jake that has significantly more juice with the bazillion modes of failure addressed?

But the way this guy has presented the car is likely indicative of the way the car was treated...I'd want to see that car in person. Assuming that went ok I think I'd go up to $20. If it only needs $2-4K, you scored. If needs $12K, I'd still be happy with it. Might need replacement lights and a drivers seat.

From Jake:

... If the issue is injector, O2 sensor/ catalytic converter or AOS driven (all of which can make for high fuel trim, washdown, and oil consumption) you might repair it for 2-4K bucks…. If the issue has gone on too long and created a mechanical issue, then we can repair the engine for around 10-12k at most...

More than likely this car needs an AOS or is running rich, or both. If the issue was mechanically driven it would have progressed well beyond the 500 miles/ quart as the problem got worse. Mechanical problems will only get worse. More than likely I could diagnose this issue in a few hours, and I doubt the engine would need to come apart, unless the long term underlying issue created mechanical damage...

I’ll give the new buyer a deal (at the prices I stated earlier) to repair it, (just so I can document what happened to it)...

Me thinks the reason why it's priced low is because of the tip.

I recall about a year a go, a very clean enthusiast owned 996T with 70K miles, for 35K, and the owner couldn't move it.

I thought about it, but didn't really want tiptronic.

None - tip basically means even 22k will be a reach. Otherwise I'd be on my way down to SC right now.

and given the most recent troubles with the auto trannies (e.g. KK, John Ireland, etc) in the 996, they may not be the best idea either.

I have been searching for a 996 with aero kit for months. I have a WTB thread in the classifieds but if anyone comes across one, please let me know. I would prefer a less common color but would consider everything but silver.

black on black mk1 just sold on BaT meng, you gotta up your search game. Also searchtempest (craigslist aggregator) can help.

Correction, still available.

There was the black one in Denver that was highly modified and converted from a C4 to a C2. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for.

I have been watching this on in BaT. It looks pretty nice but I would make a few changes out the gate. It will be interesting to see what it sells for taking into account the buyers premium.

Low-mileage 2001 C2 Aero in the Bay Area. Looks like full leather, too. Not a super inspiring colour though.
