There is no way in the world from a brand protection and liability point of view that Porsche would refurb the engines and reinstall them in new cars. The reputational exposure, ( and liability exposure if there were another fault) would be enormous. I just can't see it.

I was looking forward to this car but just canceled my order. I am sure Porsche will eventually fix this but I don't need the brain damage.

Yeah - I'm in the same camp. Although I haven't actually canceled yet :-)

My build is this week and I was told by me dealer late last week that it was a bit ahead of schedule in production. Doesn't seem likely it would have the new motor yet if they're still testing it...so I suspect that means an engine swap for mine too. Now...is it better to take the car with the new motor this year, albeit late? Or back out and maybe order one next year? Not sure what to do...

Until we hear when new engines will be fitted, this "Letter" doesn't help much at all. We are all still in the dark as to final resolution. Allan

My build had a fixed date for Friday, the 14th after being pushed up 3 times. With no news I pulled it Wednesday and the dealer will give me the 3rd 2015 allocation. Looking at 6 months. Hopefully they can get the Buckets on the option list by then.

Good luck with negotiations guys...

I think we should start two new threads

1) compensation thread. I'm afraid for existing owners if the car this is a serious inconvenience. I want to see cash compensation and I think we need to stick together to achieve the best group outcome. In the age if the internet and social media they cant ignore this.

2) in light of the woeful time frames and by way of protest regards the above situation if a satisfactory outcome is not presented by month end we should organise a global "drive your 991 gt3 day" as a protest. Wear your race suit and extinguisher for additional effect! I'm serious!

As previous stated even though the news was firmly told to me 10 days ago I was very disappointed to hear it.

We need a global compensation package for the various scenarios of incomplete ownership including those who have taken delivery and we need to finalise it real soon before Porsche forget what a huge blunder this is!

Smart move. If I were in your shoes, i would do the same.
No reason to hold to a 2014 when.
1) No fix insight
2) When fix is insight and repair is being completed at approx. when 2015 models will most likely be here
3) 2015 models may have bucket options
4) 2015 better resale value
5) No sitting on a depreciating liability for months until a fix is found
6) No need to deal with local Porsche dealership / PNA for compensation on a car...
7) Most important- TIME & no stress of going back and forth with dealership/PNA/PAG for whatever issues/compensations etc.

Best of luck guys.

...on the contrary. I think this letter is huge, finally PAG's delineation of the problem leading to the 2 fires. However, now the waiting game for ending final testing by PAG of piston bolt fix. I think delivered cars are in it for more than just 1 month prior to return to owners.
Would negotiate for extended warranty on new engine ...

I do feel bad for the guys that already have their cars. It's not fun to have a toy you can't drive.

Well just spoke to my dealer and production is continuing. They confirmed with Porsche that my EU pick up is still on schedule for May 16th. In addition Cyreck who is a rennlist member also confirmed today with his dealer that his US May 9 delivery is on schedule. Porsche is telling folks production is moving forward.

I reckon PAG will tell customers that production is on schedule and will then tell you production is delayed closer to the date. If they didn't do this, I can't imagine how many people would cancel their order in favour of a 2015 model.

Final testing? I don't recall the word final being used. There is no new engine yet. There won't be until ALL testing is complete. If prototypes are part of the testing, there may still be final tooling to come. Then component build, then assembly, then decisisions about which markets are shipped first. Oh, and we'd better put some instructions in the box for the tech at the other end.

Settle in for the ride. We'll be here for many months yet.
