Just buy the 6" one, it goes between the V belt pulley and the balance shaft drive gear. I did that with a hall sensor on my NA and it's been perfect.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I've done several stand-alones and so far what i've read here from others is solid advice. I will throw this out there... I had excellent success tuning with the Megasquirt 2 in first gen miatas. I also ran a FASTEFI standalone with an LS3 in a Datsun 280Z that also integrated a touchscreen dash and datalogged 16 channels for up to 2 hours run time.

I'll be following this thread as I'm interested in how Wilson turns out!!

I know your car idled better than any other 944 I've heard after your install. However, my kit comes with the hall sensor & magnet kit & I will install that.

-------------

Kind of a breakthrough for me today... the brakes & the clutch; both not being up to the task of medium to full performance for this turbo. Stressing me out.

I'm stepping back. I'll keep my hp goals lower, much lower - like 220-240 tops. Comparable to a factory 951. Hey it'll still beat a countach from 0-60!

I will have a much different car (new cockpit, new suspension, 3 new adjustable engine management systems to learn, new paint job, new aerodynamics to test & tweak). I've never driven a turbo'd car before! Getting used to cornering in a turbo powered car is something to consider. Last year I drove in a 170 hp 944. I loved it. This Stage 1 will have me grinning from ear to ear. HP is not my first priority in a sportscar anyway. Plus horsepower.... you never can get enough. Eventually the 350 horse will bore me & I'll be looking at the other guy, talking **** under my breath "that guy thinks he's so cool with 380 hp...." hahaha.

On the positive side this will be a graduated step towards driving a powerful car, so maybe this is the world or God or whatever prevent people from dying. LOL.

I have dropped some serious cash into the engine already, time to be responsible. What was my engine goal? Turbo. Not horsepower, just get the car operating well under turbine. I can meet that goal with the oem clutch and brakes.

Stage 2 can wait for next year. Lets get this show on the road cause summer is almost here

+1! Get it going!

And in the year and a half I've known you brother, if you did it all at once, this winter you'd be trying to jet power Wilson! Spread it out to get the most feed for the tinker need! This winter you can work on brakes (you can never have too much) next spring clutch, then next year stage 2! Lol that should keep you busy!

What about going with Volvo 4-pot calipers up front? I did that conversion on mine for well under $200. You can use stock spindles, rotors, etc. Just need to slightly trim the dust shields and they basically bolt right up.

FINALLY! Darn, this is so much work to get to some rods. Notice the brazed tube from the balance shaft delete days.

LR flap kit. What's better, HD rivets & epoxy or aluminum welding?

I took this plastic float from spare parts at work to replace the fragile oil level float that broke the last time I pulled the pan. No more (!) light!

Personally, epoxy would scare me in this location. The heat and cold cycles, the constant movement of oil, and the general corrosive nature of petro products to many substances.... I just won't feel good about epoxy.

just my .02

Having worked in the aviation industry, rivets are the fastener of choice for high-stress critical applications over welding.

I'm pretty sure spot welding is what LR suggest in that kit. When I had them do my head, I cornered Mike for about 45 mins on the phone and drilled him about a lot of their products.... More than once. I'm pretty sure I'm on the "Mike's not in right now" list. LOL

I also have a ton of emails from him with suggestions on re-ringing, seating rings, and other stuff LR has learned about these cars.

It's a permanent fastener that won't crack due to heat cycling and mechanical stress (ie wing bending up and down during flight changes) like a weld could.

What altitude are you planning on taking your car to?
