If you're looking for engine management, I have a fully functional vitesse maf, smt6 piggyback, momonitor w/vnock and wasted spark kit. Looking at moving to vems. Make me an offer.
I'm a little biased but I sincerely believe that a Microsquirt is the best bang for the buck for a standalone, on a completely custom setup. Been helping Ak951 set his 951 up with one, and it only took a few days of work before it was boosting like nobody's business. $400 or so, and no assembling the ECU...just wiring it in correctly. We have a ton of maps for the system you could basically just flash and turn the key.
One concept that has been tantalizing my taste buds has been the concept of flipping the header but there isn't enough clearance. Also I need to read up on the function of the blow off valve and recommendations for mounting position of it externally.
Alright so to avoid confusion, my intent wasn't to build a "Hater pipe" through the hood LOL. I was considering making a exhaust manifold that used the oem primary tubes welded to a "log" and routed around the front of the engine. Benefits would be:
-less exhaust near the fuel lines(lessen chance of fire)
-less exhaust congestion to deal with (only a single pipe going rearward - like an n/a).
I wanted to to explore ALL options of air management (routing specifically). But after consideration, the idea is rejected. I have decided to mount the turbo and exhaust pipe very similar to how Spencer's picture shows... based on oem concept, but a bit differently.
Future ambitions will probably include a rad/intercooler extractor vent like in the following pictures, so I need to keep the area "free". Fortunately the afm will be out of the way (because standalone/map sensor replaces) & if I re-route the upper rad hose I should be golden.
That's interesting... I'll check out the 928 mani for curiosity's sake but for sure going driver side for the turbine mount.
You present a logical argument however,
I wont go with factory plumbing for the following reasons:
-none around locally
-different turbo (hence different mounting and flanges) so fab is required anyway
-desire 3" exhaust pipe
