The Holset HX family of turbos also bolt directly the stock mount.
Hint hint.
I paid $100 for a HX35 and $40 for a rebuild kit, that's a pretty average deal. They're made for diesel engines that pull trailers all day, a 2.5 is nothing.

Can anyone confirm that the turbo is really MOUNTED on 2 oil drain bolts (to engine mount) and supported in a secondary manner by the exhaust in & out pipes?
My only experience with turbo is non-remote mounts on a log type manifold on big diesel trucks (mounted at 4 bolt IN flange).
But this other concept opens up some options I haven't thought of.
You'll want to make a bracket to support the throttle body end of the intake in addition to the factory turbo manifold brace that bolts by the aos. That's asking a lot of the 8 little 8mm bolts at the head that are trying to hold a sealed gasket down. Clever idea though
Noah, dunno if you have this part, but this is the bracket that supports the manifold by the AOS:
It's #5 in the diagram. You can probably get one cheap on ebay, I'm still up in the air as to whether I'm going to use mine. It's an annoying bracket to remove because of the bolt locations. If memory serves, the downpipe is also bolted to it for support.
It's really cool slowly learning what makes a 951! I've never seen that diagram before. What is the purpose of bracket 8? "just" support or does it does something else?
I messed up on the first aluminum turbo hanger.
I based the intake manifold hole on the ford 65mm throttle body gasket when I should have based it on the manifold hole.
Also the placement of the 4 manifold -to- tb bolt holes must be very accurate. So I made a template and used a 2.5" hole saw instead of the 3".
The oil feed line with restrictor plate BARELY fits. But fits.... (barely). This 1/4" aluminum 6000 series plate is very stiff.
The thickness of the manifold side wall is thin, but I will do a minor port job to get rid of the casting flaws & turn the step into a ramp from the turbo hanger & larger throttle body.
Was planning on porting the manifold runners but I'm really happy with the factory dimensions.

This positioning of the turbo is very very close to stock 951. Studying pics of 951 turbo cars, I was also very happy to realize I was wrong, and that this turbo is a very similar configuration to 944 turbo cars. That pleases me!

Just measure the "overall width" of the Ford throttle body flange, perpendicular to the shaft axis (as mounted on your manifold, top to bottom).
Of course the time I start thinking about a Ford TB, I don't have one handy anymore...
