Default Spacer Advice?

Hello, My son has a '85 944 NA, with the stock cookie cutter rims. He has purchased aftermarket rims, and is in need of spacers. Where can we purchase spacers foe his vehicle?

Thanks,
'85 Euro 928

What are the offsets? Are you wanting spacers and longer studs or adapter (spacers with studs)?

Unfortunately we don't know the offsets because he purchased aftermarket rims from a private owner. We don't know which one we want, spacers with longer studs, spacers or adaptors? Can you advise us on where to purchase either?

Thank you.

You're gonna need to know the offsets and widths. I would suggest adapter-style spacers as they are easier to do. Some will claim they're unsafe but I haven't seen anyone actually have them fail.

They're the ones that look like this:

Usually can be found on ebay for under $100 a pair.

I would recommend this website www.willtheyfit.com to enter the old and new specs into to help decide what offset puts the wheels at the same spot as factory (or desired spot).

Hope that helps.

in most cases (with phone dials) the size is on the inside, take a look, the issue I had with spacers was getting them to sit evenly, best I could get was tighten each nut slowly and evenly, still had a bit of a shake at speeds

Yep, wheels usually all have the sizes (diameter, width, and offset shown most likely as etXX) on the back... It's cast or stamped in. I've come across ONE set of wheels that didn't have the offset displayed correctly but it was easy to figure out.

James, it sounds like you need hub centric spacers. Your spacers look like flat plates I'm willing to bet.

Just buy some washers and fit them on the lug studs one by one until you get the wheel fit you desire. Then measure the stack of washers and get spacers and studs to match.

Remember if you get adapters then you have extra lugs to check.

And you'll want to re torque them after so many miles or something like that. I've checked mine periodically and had never had any issues.

Ditto. I have the bad habit of putting on my lugs with my 1/2" impact, I've checked them all and they are definitely not going anywhere

I'm so disgusted, I don't know what to do. The rims are MHT/Foose custom 3-piece, 8x19 front, 11x19 rear. The previous owner had them on a Porsche Boxster. I went to two national tire dealers, Discount Tire and Belle Tire. Neither had anyone in their employment that was skilled in measuring the rims to tell me the offset. I contacted the manufacturer's customer service rep and he could not tell me the offset of these rims either. Please advise?

I don't think knowing the size of the phone dials is going to help me with these custom rims. These rims are a total different style and offset than the phone dials. We looked on the inside of the MHT/Foose rims but there is nothing telling us the offset.

Ingenious! I will do exactly this but still confused as to spacer and longer stud, adapter style, and where to purchase either.

You can go either way, I believe most go with adapters cause its easier. They can be found on eBay just do a search.. and I guess youre stuck with the washer method. Slap em on the car and start counting washers!
