Put my 'deposit' down ($1000) in December 2016 and I was 5 or 6 on the list. Surprising how much demand there is. Supposedly their production capacity is only 20K/year. That will mean some long waits...

They didn't build a dedicated factory to build 400 cars/month

Quite a bit of construction right now at Zuffenhausen........and they claimed $1.1B and 1,400 additional jobs.
A lot has changed since I walked around in there but pretty sure that most of Taycan work will be a bit apart from 911.

Does it matter where I make the deposit? I could go to my closest dealer which is in the city (Boston) but I assume they’re are several people in front of me in line. Should I seek out a dealer with a short line?

If you have an established relationship with a dealership, that's your best bet for a deposit. There isn't a formal line so to speak. Each dealership will decide and the order for their line based on their own criteria. So having a relationship with a dealership will probably get you a better position than placing a deposit at a random dealer.

Either way, the Taycan will be produced in high numbers. Worst case you wait a year. It's not like a GT car where they are building a limited amount and if you don't get an allocation you're out of luck.

I'm sure like any new "hot" car there will be some craziness with allocations and markups (ADMs) for the first few months, but it will die down quickly when production hits full steam. For a bit of perspective, Porsche built roughly 6000 GT3s this past model for the entire run. For the Taycan they are planning on 20K-30K per year. That's quite a difference.

Hi - has anyone received a “certificate” in the mail for putting a deposit for the Taycan?

Got one in the mail yesterday, from Porsche NA, and not sure what it means - placed the deposit a whiiile back, but only got it last night.

I got the certificate. I contacted 2 dealerships a long time ago to get on "the list". No one asked me for a deposit. Bit puzzling. I recently bought a new GT3RS from a dealer out of state. Maybe I'm in their data base because of that.

I got a certificate as well... #26 at my dealer... they required no deposit as I'm a longtime customer.

My order was created yesterday. Vehicle status 0070.

Dealer said first quarter of 2020.

Can somebody post a copy of their certificate here, so we can see what it looks like? (black out any personal info, of course)

I am curious what is your dealer's definition of "vehicle status 0070".
