Default There are some deals around on new '12 Cayman R's!

Just in case one of you Rennlisters are looking for one, I just got an email 'blast' from Hennessy (Atlanta Porsche Dealer) with this offer:

"MY2012 Cayman R
Original MSRP: $83,950
Sale Price: $78,950
You Save: $5,000"

http://www.hennessyporsche.com/new/P...86636/info.php

I am not affiliated with Hennessy (or anyone else for that matter), but I thought it was interesting to see this car publicly discounted.

Saludos,
z356 (Carmel)

I got an attractive offer on one.

Must be some strong dealer incentives to clear them out before 981s start showing up.

I'm leaning towards waiting for 981s to arrive instead of getting a Cayman R and the longer they sit.....

In fact, some late MY2011 Spyders and even some early MY2012's were discounted by dealers. It seems only two groups ended up paying MSRP (or close to it) for their Spyders during its short production run - A) The early adopters that purchased when the model was first delivered in Spring & early Summer of 2010, and B) Those acquiring the last MY2012's when it became known production had ceased and '12 Spyders were scarce! Those who bought in the middle of the limited production Spyder run were able to negotiate discounts, some of which were significant and talked about on this very forum.

By late Summer of 2010, some could see that there was quite a bit of Spyder inventory building up at the dealers:

https://rennlist.com/forums/987-foru...y-is-huge.html

In addition, quite a number of low mileage Spyders were showing up in the second hand market after the 'rush' of summer. Despite glowing reviews from most of the motoring press, the Spyder (it turned out) appealed mostly to a very dedicated enthusiast willing to put up with a not-so-practical top to enjoy its many other charms! So just as the US was going into its winter months, the combination of large inventory of unsold new Spyders and the availability of many used Spyders created a buying opportunity for consumers in late 2010/early 2011. Without a doubt that resulted in discounts on new Spyders in the marketplace.

That is the reality I saw and experienced as I followed closely the Spyder market after September '10, up to when I took delivery of my late production '12 model in late August '11, fully one year later!

I was seriously looking at this one last week, but opted for a 2009 S, so I could mod it to my hearts content. Even with a discount, the delta would be massive... 25k or more. I love the vintage color, but it would have been too precious.

According to the marketing guru's at Walter's, it's an unspecified PTS color with a not-so-subtle hint of George S. Patton in its hue! Here is how they describe it: "Stand out in the crowd with this special non-metallic paint that hints of and army green". Who are we to argue the point? Let's just say it works for me...I love the smell of napalm in the morning!

The "overview" part of the ad says "stone grey." I like it!

Wow if I was in the market for an R that would be my pick. It is perfectly specked! Sport Buckets, MT, PSE, PTS, no radio, AC. Someone should snag that quick.

I'd still like to know how many Rs were built.
Richard Jennings at Hennessy was great to deal with, even from 2200 miles.

I was reading on Planet 9 that about 3500 R's were produced for the entire world. I believe 1500-1800 came to the US.
