Watt,
Food for thought on the pccbs. My car doesn't have them either so I can't comment on the "value." And I believe one car magazine said pccbs were not necessary. But I wish my car had them. Most of my cars have ceramic brakes even one of my daily drivers. All the cars I take to the track have them. Ceramic brakes are just something I'm use to. If you read the article in Car and Driver, "Best Handling Car in America," they criticized the Spyder's brakes both on the street and on the track. I would agree with their assessment. Honestly I probably would not have ordered the pccbs but it's the one option I wish the car had. Contradictory I know. And probably a Spyder with pccbs would be a difficult resell and zero value to the next owner?

Bucket seats ... AMAZING seats.
Sport Chrono ... never liked it. "Wart" is a good description, IMHO
PSE ... My car doesn't have it. In the beginning I wished it had it. Now I'm not so sure. Great sound though.

Good for them, I hear Alberta is buzzing with new economic activity. I didn't missed Savyboy and Carrera GT. They were parked (with new 997.2 gt3 RS's) together near the fence by turn #2 and we had a good visit. I missed Zellamsee, who was there as a spectator (I think). But I might catch him next week with his Spyder when he comes back down here to drive Laguna Seca. I was a member of Porsche Owners Club back in 1984/85 when I lived in Marina del Rey and have great memories of their track events back then. I even crashed (& totalled) my bright yellow '72 914 2.0 at one of their DE's - hit an early apex in turn two and never recovered at the historic Riverside International racetrack, now a shopping mall in the oddly-named Inland Empire area of Southern California. z356
LOL.

i saw zellamesse at LS with POC.
we will be out at LS 9/16, and i i will be there 9/18-19 as well.

Here's one all the way in Connecticut. It has the sports buckets, but no sports exhaust or chronos.
http://danbury.porschedealer.com/new...64522/info.php
This one in NYC is white but without sports exhaust.
http://manhattan.porschedealer.com/n...65369/info.php
And seraching on autotrader, using 2011, new white boxster spyder as criteria, returns 23 listings nation wide.

thanks my dealer ran a negative search on sport seats and found the buckets, its harder to serach the buckets since its a no cost option is the excuse.

Just ask my dealer if they heard from Porsche regarding continued Spyder production in the fall, below was their response.

I was told they were going to continue the production of the Spyder, but we didn’t get any and every dealer I talked to said the same thing, so there can’t be many still being produced.

This is from the person that handles all the ordering for the store. They also stated they are a high volume dealership and would get allotments if there are any available. So if anyone hears of a dealer getting anymore allotments, please let me know, I'm sure my dealer would like to know about it.

Default Number of Unsold Spyders in Dealer Inventory is Huge! Really?

However, I came away with the opposite impression; an average of less than one car per dealer didn't sound like many to me, and given limited allocations remaining, doesn't seem to leave a lot of room for negotiation on what is a 2011 model.

With 360 cars sold through August, 125 on the ground or inbound, and 2-3 more months of production (so say the rumors), seems to me that there may end up being less than 1,000 Spyders in the US.
.
The OP's thread title was entitled: Number of Unsold Spyders in Dealer Inventory is Huge! If it's actually 125 on the ground and in transit, I'm wondering how many people would consider that level of inventory to be huge. This is a low volume car, sure to sell out....125 might also be considered a low level of inventory compared to larger volume sports cars. Thoughts?

Just seems to me that if there are 125 on the ground and in transit that building more would serve what purpose for Porsche? Going into the winter months with a niche car like the Spyder, I would presume the sales would drop off significantly, so why build more? I figured 189 dealers in the US X 3 allotments per dealer is 567, assuming all dealers get 3, which I would think not all dealers got 3. I would also think that the warmer climate areas, CA, AZ, dealers would have a better chance of selling cars though out the winter months than in other parts of the country. But according to my dealer, no other allotments have been given to them or any other dealer they have talked to in CA.

I can't see Porsche building more Spyders just to sit through the winter months, taking up dealer inventory with the good chance of discounting them as the winter goes on. With the new Boxster and possibly the Cayman CS/R coming out, my hope is that the Spyder run is over. I always heard the the run would be about 10% of the boxster sales, which I believe was around 5800 in 2009. So the approx. 600 car theory could be right on the money for the US. Those that have them, congrats, it is a phenomenal car. Those that want one, time may be running out. It would help us all that the run stay as low as possible. Just my 2 cents.

Default Huge? Well, let's see.

Re VGM911's : "I'm wondering how many people would consider that level of inventory to be huge". Before all of you answer that question, consider a few other facts. Total estimated production of Spyders continues to be an elusive target for even dedicated observers like Alan Smithee, of whom I am a huge fan in this forum. He just told us, and you quote him in your post, "With 360 cars sold (to end users) through August, 125 on the ground or inbound, and 2-3 more months of production (so say the rumors), seems to me that there may end up being less than 1,000 Spyders in the US." But back in January, Alan posted: "There has been talk of the Spyder representing about 10% of Boxster sales. Considering there were ~2,000 Boxsters sold in the US last year, and ~3,000 sold in 2008, we may only see 250 Spyders in the US. Given the focused nature of the car, and the volume of Porsche's less mainstream models (manual transmission Cayennes, Targa models, etc.) that number seems about right to me". Four times higher today than his best guess back then!

So this analytical game is not an exact science. And as current .2 RS owners are finding out, MY'10/'11 production of their niche vehicles is now anticipated to be much higher than initially expected. And I agree with pcw that, with inclement weather arriving just around the corner, a lot of these cars will now sit unsold until next spring. They are all MY2011 so that part is not a problem. But my question is why didn't PCNA spaced-out production in Germany and allocations to US dealers such that it would allow interested buyers to custom order their Spyders for spring 2011 arrival? Same as many of you were able to do on your Spyder orders last winter & early spring. A highly specialized car like this benefits from exact ordering to fit specific customers' needs. This would have also saved dealers a ton of money from having to floor plan all of that Spyder inventory until the spring.

We hear all the time that Porsche learned a lot from their experiences last year, when MY2009 left-over inventory (especially 911's) were sold off at 20% or greater discounts. Ever since, 911 production and allocations are tightly managed. Why didn't they apply that lesson to the Spyder?

So everywhere we look, the issue of numbers and marketing strategies is 'huge'. Just my dos centavos. z356

Well stated Z356 and I agree.

I don't want to buy what a dealer thinks is a "perfect" configuration, I want to build my own. I also would like to see some consistency with what is initially stated by PCNA when the car is introduced with actual reality. Case in point, many publications state specifically that the Spyder is not a limited production vehicle and that Porsche will continue building it. Thus far I have received three responses when I have asked four different dealers if Porsche will be building these cars in early 2011. One dealer says no, another says yes and two others won't offer a response. WTF!! I hope they're reading this because it can certainly make for a frustrating purchasing experience and it is a turn off.

Good point Marine Blue about the dealer ordering Spyders for their stock. I bet you the majority of Spyder that were ordered by dealers were ordered without the Sport Buckets and with the A/C. I know my dealer strongly advised I sit in the Buckets before I ordered them, which I'm glad they did, I decided on the Sports Leather Seats (p77's) . They also strongly advised to order the A/C. I truly believe that was because if I was to back out of the deal, they (the dealer) would have a car that would have been an easier sell to someone that wasn't looking for a "track specific" car.

Despite the "huge" inventory, I can't seem to find one with:
Silver or white
Black interior
Sport bucket seats
Rear parking sensors
A/C
standard spyder wheels
bluetooth

Ideally,
no Sport Chrono
leather interior
Bi-xenon

Not particular about
radio
self dim mirrors
6MT or PDK

Don't want
Navi
CD Changer

I'm just glad I ordered mine the exact way I wanted! It was a long 7 month wait, but more than worth it.

Carrera White
Manual w/ Sport Short Shifter
Black FULL Leather
Sport Bucket Seats w/ crest in headrest
Radio delete
A/C delete
Aluminum Footrest
Xenon Headlamps w/ Dynamic Cornering
19" Spyder Wheels w/ painted caps

I have yet to see one like mine anywhere on the web... Globally.

Minor mods include:
Clear Sidemarkers
Porsche Rubber floor and trunk mats
Full Venture Shield (full hood, bumper, fenders, rockers, grill intakes, windshield frame, mirrors)
Hardwired Escort Redline

1700 miles since the end of May! Daily driver always garaged at home and work.

This has been by far the most enjoyable car I have owned. Knowing it's exclusivity is an added bonus! I plan on keeping her for a long time!
