Morning,
I purchased that $63,000 Spyder and could not be happier. The car is flawless with loads of service records. The owner was probably one of the most accommodating sellers I have ever dealt with. I presently have a 2002 22k mile C4S, 2019 911 T and the Spyder now joins them. Can't wait until spring gets here.

What are people's guesses as to whether that last BAT Spyder was flooded? Evidence is the carpet that is pulled away from where it should be and the strange "corrosion" on the seat controls.

Nice car otherwise, beat on sport seats will hurt it, but it is a manual which will help.

Two states I'm always worried about if in a car's history... New Jersey and Florida. Both of those states are routinely used to wash titles.

I think the evidence is a bit weak on flooding, but maybe they left the windows open or drove in the rain often. Also the tops are known to leak a little. The underside looks pretty clean.

The seller is not helping. He at least made A comment, but did not further expand on any of the commenters concerns other than it was not in a flood. The seller needs to be engaged on the BaT platform, more so than thier competitors. It will hurt the final selling price if they are not engaged like this one.

If you're talking about the black one which ended today, right after the close the seller told the winner he now couldn't sell the car because of an emergency.... something REALLY smells. I think the buyer may be glad he was "screwed."

no - the salesperson was slow to respond and by the time he did, the car was sold.

The black 2012 Spyder on BaT was weird. I was outbid by the auction winner and frankly now am relieved I didn’t win, but bummed that the seller is apparently backing out.

not clear of that auction clarified the true market price for 987.2 Spyders in early 2023, but the result was significantly less than the current asking prices of dealers.

I guess time will tell who has more patience- buyers waiting for prices to drop or dealers waiting for buyers to step up. As for me, I’m waiting.

The seller was unresponsive and clearly appeared to be a bad risk. That's why the final price was so low. There are very few manual tranny Spyders out there, and good luck waiting for the prices to fall. IMO that car with no issues is easily a $70k car.

I made the suggestion on the thread that the winner takes the seller to court for specific performance. The seller agrees to sell when the car is put on BAT. I don't think there is any real question that the buyer would prevail and possibly collect attorney fees. If BAT won't identify the seller he could sue a James Doe and subpoena the records from BAT. As you all agree, he got a $70,000 car for much less. Discovery would probably turn up all kinds of interesting things, including where the car is now and to whom it putatively belongs.

The auction result was $5k less than a prior black Spyder with buckets and several expensive options that this one didn’t have. Given the macro economic conditions, I don’t think this result was wildly off base. Certainly the seller’s lack of engagement hurt, but the same can be said to the other side with the $65k black Spyder, which had a very engaged and helpful seller.

Suing for specific performance may be technically feasible but guaranteed to be a financial loser. Florida is not “loser pays” so you’re paying the lawyer way more than you “saved” on the auction win, not to mention the emotional toll litigation has on both sides. Better to move on and buy the next one.

This is great advice, difficult though it may be to take in the moment. Judges tend not to have patience for things they look upon as "frivolous" -- like the fortunate among us not getting the exact toy we want. Moving on is definitely the best course of action. But, first, take a few minutes to properly curse the non-performing seller ("I hope they fall off, catch fire, and roll under the couch").

Another Spyder up on BaT. Clean example from the looks with only 15k miles. Black with red interior. PDK & sofas.

Not a lot of volume on these or the CR's so far this year. I imagine now that it is Spring, we will start to see more trickle through the auction block.

Number of auctions on BaT:
27 - Cayman R
53 - 987 Boxster Spyder

Number of cars imported to North America:
624 - Cayman R
891 - 987 Boxster Spyder

Not a lot of volume on either, but seems the Boxster Spyder has greater turnover (5.95%) vs the Cayman R (4.21%).
