Default Early Boxster Side Intake Scoop

Anyone know where to find to find the intake (driver's side) air scoop? Have been hunting but no leads so far.

Don't know of anybody making them. Home Depot fiberglass and elbow grease made mine.

JPC makes 'em. Don't know if it makes a difference but the car looks slightly cooler with it.

I'm looking everywhere for those scoops too. Turns out that they were made by Kohkeln, in California, but it looks like they've ceased to exist.

It is legal in SPB PCA. I assume it is legal in Nasa as well but I do not know those rules as well.

PCA says "no modifications can be made to the intake system after the air filter". So this is before the air filter and therefore free game.

And NASA is just going with the PCA rule book, so OK there as well.

The very first line of the car requirements says "Any modification not specifically listed is not allowed. In other words, if the rules don’t say you can do it ‐ DON’T."

Then in the SPB section it says "No modifications to engine air inlet and intake."

If I were the scrut (and I was at one point) I would say this is not legal for PCA. At a bare minimum I'd suggest emailing Walt to make sure.

The specific rule is in the bodywork section. PCA rules a scoop on the outside as bodywork as its not attached to the intake in any way

'G. Radiator inlet screens, side inlet scoops and screens and ventilation ducts are allowed.'

I don't even care about the inlet side, I really want that scoop for the radiator, or right, side. There's no ruling against that.

Yes it does. That's pretty inarticulate rule writing since that is the "engine air inlet".

Not on my car, or the other two boxster's I have. The scoop or air inlet, mounts to the sheet metal on the outside of the car and extends into a plenum, but doesn't mount to it. The air box draws air from the same plenum.

I basically read the rule and it said it could be done, so I did it two years ago at at the WGI race. I have spoken to exactly 7 national PCA scrutineers since then who thought it was illegal and so I showed them the rule and offered to take it off and they all agree it's legal. So I left it on. No idea if it does anything. I meant to run some data one day of it vs the stock but never did and ended up just having a fun days driving.

Today, half the field in the Northeast run a scoop or altered side bodywork. Like I said, no idea if it does anything.

Clearly rule G allows it but whether the vent is the "inlet" is debatable.
