I will never buy the " the new GT3,the new RS,the new GT4 etc " actually makes more power than they were rated by Porsche. That's BS. All 3 have been independently tested and they make EXACTLY what Porsche rated them to make. I do get the " making more power at speed due to the ram air effect "...I can totally see that!
I do believe GT horses are bigger, but not as much as we'd expect.
There is data (and dynos) that suggest some GT cars are particularly off. The 996 GT3 RS's performance numbers are difficult to reconcile with Porsche's own power ratings and other specifications. Meanwhile a similar analysis suggests the typical Carrera is far less well endowed. Most overrated vs underrated I could make an argument for a 30 hp gap, but more recently while a trend remains it appears to be far smaller. I have trouble arguing for even 10 hp of underrating on the GT4 vs typical Porsches (strangled by the standard Boxster intake manifold).
The new GT3 clearly has the foundation to make far more power than it does. The solid rocker cam should allow a more aggressive profile and the bottom end can clearly spin, so there's nothing to stop them moving peak power up by a couple hundred rpm and netting another 15 hp. Find another 10 hp in friction and steeper ramp rates on the cam and you've got your next RS.
If the new car really is making no more than the 991.1 RS then they are limiting it artificially, likely with the cam. Regardless area under the curve will be better at the top, so the car will outperform its numbers either way.
To a precise German engineer 10 hp is huge, so I think they fully believe they're underrating...

I mostly watch Lieberman's Motor Trend videos for pure entertainment rather than learning any meaningful insight into the cars he's driving. This one doesn't sound any different to me.
