I don't have any information on using the Cayenne calipers, but these folks have a product that allows GTS calipers and the Cayenne 330mm rotors. I use it on my S3, and the braking is _impressive_

Any year S4+ will fit as they are the same 87-95. You also don't need adapters for the rear, just washers to space the calipers on the rotors.

You could also use 993 calipers. The pistons are 20% larger than the ones the S4 got.

I did a swap of 86.5 onto 84, ie, essentially S4 onto 84.

In my case, swapped entire front suspension. Worked great, but it was tedious.

The later (86.5 and up) upper A-arms needed upper bj's though, and that meant replacing with 928 Intl rebuilds. They aren't rebuildable with a kit like 86 and earlier.

I run GTS calipers with 330mm Cayanne rotors using the Perfex kit here:
http://perfexmfg.com/brakes.php,

stock S4 Calipers in rear with just a spacer washer. Looks like this:

I believe the spacing is all wrong. I'm sure some have looked into it though.

Looks sweet! Thinking about upgrading the brakes on the Coke Car. It's an 86.5, so it has S4 calipers, but I have GTS calipers on my GT that I could transfer over and then do the mod to run the 330mm rotors... time and $$$!

I'm running Big Black GTS calipers on the front of my '79 with 993TT 2-piece Girodisc slotted rotors (I think they are 322 or 330mm) using Carl's adapter brackets. Rears are complimentary looking Powerslots with S4/GTS calipers.

Default Brake upgrade.

Trying to update my 85 s3 brakes, I was told that the cayman rotors with the stock calipers is a good set up, here is the issue I purchased the cayman 06, rotors they don't fit due the being to large, so have I been misinformed on the cayman rotors working on the 85 s3. Thanks in advance.

Never read/heard about that one before- how would a rotor only install be an upgrade unless it is a two piece item and the gain is to save some weight? Are you sure the advice you got did not mean a rotor and caliper upgrade as though it were a direct bolt on replacement? I suppose that could be the case but logically I would also expect it to need adapters of some kind to mount the caliper further out to take advantage of the bigger radius.

As I know the Cayman is fitted with 18 inch wheels minimum so quite conceivable they have bigger diameter rotors but then you have the wheels to clear as with the GTS setup. Hopefully someone on the list will understand the mounting geometry issues.

As per previous threads the logical upgrade for your MY is to fit the S4 caliper/rotor with appropriate after market spacers. You could also go the GTS route but then you would also need 17 inch wheels or bigger.

My advice, leave them be. If the factory brakes are in spec and working correctly there is no room to improve for street driving.

Focus your efforts on other areas that likely need attention on a car of that age.

I have early '86 smaller brakes and am struggling with the ABS sensors...I have been hunting but having no luck upgrading so I could use an available sensor...I have looked everywhere for them and they don't appear to be available anywhere for the early '86's....search has not been my friend
