The new 4.0L just won it's first race at the 24hrs of Dubai. GT3R finished 1st, 2nd, and 5th. With Brandon Hartley piloting the winning car.

Oh boy. Race equipment for street cars is quite hard to get imported.

Wanna know how much trouble I went through just to get my 6 point harness that came standard for my 918 Weissach?

I'm pretty sure the M4 GTS has no padding, right?

Went out and watched them for a few hours yesterday. The 4.0l didn't miss a beat during the 24h. Manthey car came in 2nd. 93cars on the grid, very impressed by the drivers navigating thru all that traffic.

It should be super easy for Porsche Motorsports?!
I'll import them. Just make avail in Germany.

No different than for example catless headers or any CUP part for that matter.

If they put the 4.0 in the GT3, they can detune it a bit to get the torque and power intermediate to the 3.8 and the 4.0 in the RS/R. That should improve the reliability of the 4.0, and give it more low to mid rev torque than the 3.8 (which would make the car better on the road) - win/win.

991.2 GT3 needs to have more power than 991.1, and I don't seem them doing that by trying to squeeze more out of the already strained 3.8 (so the days of 9k may be gone). This will also keep the RS faster than the 991.2 GT3, due to more power/torque, less weight, and more aero (assuming that isn't offset by other changes to the 991.2 GT3).

I'm placing my bet accordingly.

Has Porsche ever increased the engine size on a GT3 (not RS) from .1 to .2 in the same gen? Asking. Not sure.

Well, 997.1 is 3.6 and 997.2 is 3.8

That's the oddity isn't it?

I don't believe Porsche has ever imported cars with factory roll cages, i.e. ClubSport package to North America. That was for liability reason.

You might be correct as usual, I believe these are US spec cars:

I suspect owners remove the "condoms" upon taking delivery (I would).

Racing parts have Motorsport part number, my 6-point belt has road car part number and same with the roll cage for GT3RS.

One more thing, North America spec cars have a different body in white than ROW cars that came with roll cages.

There are reinforcements on chassis mounts for the cage, to prevent the cage from punching through the stamped steel. It's not a bolt on job.

So basically all the North American GT3RS with after market roll cages are a rolling danger, unless the installer properly reinforce the mounting points.

Last edited by Whoopsy; 01-14-2017 at 02:52 PM. Reason: damn auto correct changed roll to cool. But then again the cage can be considered cool too

Haha condoms!

Actually in the very first pic you posted on the interior you can barely see a corner of the padding.

Word for word, exactly why I think it will be a 4.0
