I've been considering the Pioneer car play modification, too. Looks great. What does it look like or do if the iPhone is not attached? Can you run Waze or any other apps? (Another example, Tom Tom, which is on my phone and does not require a cell tower connection.) How did you get the "Porsche" border? Did you lose any functionality in the tachometer screen and the computer that feeds it? That is, do the range/mpg and the TPM still work?

Thanks Guys! It was a pain in the *** but worth it. I bought a dash kit on eBay with the porsche label on it and included the wire adapter for the bose amp replacement.

The head unit is a Pioneer APPRADIO 4 (SPH-DA120)
The screen you see is when you connect the iPhone and is basically a mirror image of your phone. The only thing i dislike is that there a re only a few apps that show up. For example i thought that i would be able to use waze nav app but its not compatible when you connect the iPhone. You need to purchase a Digital AV Adapter to use different apps through the AV interface. So basically the Apple carplay apps are the ones you see in the photo plus a few more.

The great thing about the kit i purchased allows me to keep all of the wiring intact so that I could reinstall the original PCM and Amp.

You lose the sports chrono screens and trip computer when you change it out. The small screen above the steering column still works.

Today I ordered leather dash end caps, extended leather at top of dash, leather console and cubby, leather shift boot extension, leather overhead light/homelink trim, and leather door handle surround. I'll post pics as soon as it all comes in which should be right after my PSE is installed. Cheers!

It's been a few days and I could not be happier. Literally looking for any and every excuse to drive the car. It's freezing cold here but the windows are down so I can hear the exhaust. I actually had a friend drive the car yesterday with me standing on the side of the street so I could actually get an idea of how the car sounds from the outside. Again, in a word--WOW. I went from really liking the car to absolutely loving it. All that's left is installing the black 911 emblem and blacking out the rear valence (GTS style) and I am hoping to be done with mods until the spring when I may or may not opt for a new set of wheels.

Very nice! Hardest part is re-inserting the large rubber grommet that shrouds the cables as they pass through the body. I slightly modified mine and installed from the inside. Don't forget the rubber washers at gearbox terminations and re-use the OE vibration dampening housings.

I'll do the shifter myself and have shop do the cables. I don't have access to a lift or allowed to just jack stands in my silly condo garage to get in under the tranny and access the cables on it. I had Porsche of Tysons do my cables on the 997.1 I had and they did a great job. When I retire in 4 years, first mod will be to dump the DC condo, for good profit, and get own house with nice garage. Just ordered Cocomats too. Tan and black checker style.
