Drove the 931 to work today.
The cool air of the misty morning boosts up the power quite noticeably.
I guess it would feel like this most of the time if it had an intercooler.
I'm contemplating water&meth injection hidden away.
Filled the oil to the top and reset my mileage counter so I can see how much I'm burning more accurately. I don't think it's much but I want to get a feel for it.
Tried sealing the material on the firewall on the back of the hood area under the drain hole. I think water is getting in to the firewall area because the material is coming loose.
Also bought a cam that's being sent to Elgin for a regrind.
Let's see, started with a successful safety inspection, then a short cruise up to time warner to cut the cord, then back home and started working on replacing the front strut shock absorbers. Turns out my 85.2 has the early style not late style. That was an expensive mistake!
New boge equivs are on their way, but got stuck because the cartridge fell apart inside the strut housing. Ugh!! Now. Trying to figure out how to get the cartridge shell out of the housing.
Finished my 4 month long torsion bar/bushing/mount swap. Delayed by a lack of time, enthusiasm, and energy. Ruined my whole summer when that spring plate broke in July. Wasn't sure it'd ever actually get done.
But after driving it for the first time, even without an alignment anywhere near correct, it was all worth it. It's incredible. Unreal. This is the best thing ever. I never expected it to be this good, even though I went all out and got the solidest of solid mounts and polybronziest of polybronze.
Also I guess I can call myself a real 944 owner now. I successfully indexed my own torsion bars.
Finally joined the NE PCA Chapter and drove to Middletown, RI for their Cars & Coffee meet. Met some really nice people and got to inspect an 83' 944 with super low miles and in great original condition. Based on that car, I seem to be missing a securing bracket/clamp for the top radiator hose. Let the research begin...!

Most people are missing that part. If you find one it will likely be missing the rubber piece. Like mine, it will probably be wrapped in electrical tape. I've asked about it being 3D printed, but so far I seem to be the only one interested.
Spent the Weekend 2 days Street Testing 17 " Boxster Rims and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 Tyres.......
7x17 ET55 215/45/17
8.5x17 ET50 235/45/17
Looks Racey but they were no good, the Extra 24Lbs weight killed all the low and high speed acceleration (from Zero & 80mph).
The handling balance also changed with too much rear grip and less front (understeer) which makes sense with a Mid engine set up 7" & 8.5" Rim widths
Obviously the ride from 55 to 45 series was Harsher and at times unbearable, also more brake pressure was required to stop again due to the extra Unsprung Weight etc...
After 2 days and over 100 miles, I refitted the lightweight 16" Cups
( all 7" and 205/55/16) and the difference was just staggeringly better
The car accelerated, turned, cornered and braked much faster..
It was a worthwhile test and I did anticipate these results but wanted to clarify, test and confirm.
Yes I totally agree, but seemingly unlike the Majority of Car lovers ? My number one criteria and the priority is the Driving experience and the best performance aspect over all cosmetics.
If they had performed with a small amount of disadvantages, I'd of considered keeping them on, as the style does look cute on the car...
but it was so large it's a big easy decision to take them off and sell them.
It's good fun and interesting to test many different Rim and Tyre sizes and learn and feel all the actual pluses and minuses, which I'm lucky to do working in the wheel & Tyre Industry and specialising in Porsche!
I'd like to go the other way (Smaller) and try a 15" Set next, but I need to hack some metal off the rear Wilwood 4 piston calipers to fit a set of 15" Cookie Cutters which snag, but they do clear the front 6 pot calipers!
