Who would have guessed that DeLorean was so ahead of its time! Lol!
All kidding aside, getting kind of scary. In a couple of years we won't really be driving cars, they will be driving us. We'll just get some buttons to push to make us feel like we are doing something.

Aside from the grind of a traffic jam, I really do enjoy driving . Sports cars have been a life long passion of mine, with the 911 at the very top of my list of favorites for decades. The 911 GTS, is a fantastic drivers car both in its 997 and 991.1 form , especially with a MT for me. I am not a fan of the 3.0 TT boxer platform, especially its sound, and immediate release of torque , beleive it or not.I like working the NA 3.8 in the upper rev ranges to get the best out of it. The challenge to keep the 3.8 on boil to get the best out of it just adds more involvememt and engagemnt in driving the car. That said, I am sure the 991.2 GTS will be a great car for those who like the turbo characteristics. As always the new car will have more hp, torque, etc. The upcoming Porsche Hybrids and electrics are going to be even faster. But that's not what it's about for me personally. What the next generation after the 991.2 will feel like, only time will tell. However, in my experience, the more high tech our cars are becoming the less I enjoy driving them. So, I'll just keep enjoying the older versions for as long as I can and leave the electric cars for the generations to come.

The throttle response in the several 991.2 that I've driven is very good, and miles ahead of my F82 M4, which is more like an on/off switch, and therefore impossible for me to effectively modulate on track. It's not as bad on high speed tracks, but for something like autocross, it's horrid. I guess it all depends where you're coming from. I'm strictly on the side of more performance=better. I'd also take faster over sounds good any day.

I agree. I have driven my neices M4 (road not on track) and felt that throttle response was very touchy. BTW, it's a surprisingly big car and it feels like one. I think that Porsche has done an amazing job integrating turbos into the 911 platform. However, to me it is still very different as compared to the NA 3.8 that I prefer. I do come from a bit of a different standpoint when it comes to performance and speed. Totally respect the latest performance and power technology if you are doing a lot of track work or competitively racing or are just into that type of thing. I will say that I draw the line at Formula E, lol, just way too out there for me. These days I enjoy the old school stuff and would take a 280 hp 993 S or 400 hp 997 GTS over the latest and greatest . I have driven many of the current cars and none have compelled me enough to actually want one.

GTS was never a trim package in the past. 924 GTS, 928 GTS, 904 GTS exc. I'm betting they will drop it sooner or later. For those hung up on a turbo GTS. Where is the power kit option? 991.1 had the power kit in 2012. Just months after the release.

But then, you could also just as easily have said in 1984, "'Carrera' is a word that's reserved for the top of the top of Porsches. It can't be applied to run-of-the-mill models." But alas, such is change.
I think with the recent use of the initials on Cayenne, Cayman/Boxster, Panny, and Macan, it has come to mean, "Check most of the sportiness boxes, give it a set of model-specific wheels, some interior and exterior trim items you can't otherwise get, and price it as a bargain."
911 GTS has been similar in both iterations, but gave you a couple of (fairly minor) things that couldn't be had as options: i.e. widebody RWD and centerlocks. Other than that and some model-specific trim stuff, I can't think of anything that you can't get on an up-optioned S. Meaning that if you ordered a GTS4 with 5-lugs, leather interior and a ducktail, you got nothing except badging that couldn't have been ordered the year before on a 4S (at a substantially higher price.) Unless I'm missing something in my recollection. I have leather interior and duck, so the only GTS specific goodies I got were widebody RWD, CLs and stickers.
So if in the future they still do this, but turn the wick up on the turbos by 30hp, plenty of recent precedence for that. Didn't the 981 GTSs get a little software bump in power, like 10hp or something? I had a 986 SE that got a 6hp bump to go along with its cosmetic goodies, and that was all software and a slightly tweaked intake path.
But back to your point, Jimbo, in my perfect purist world, "GTS" would be the only way one gets the 30hp powerkit, and it would involve sexy stuff like different cams and ti con-rods and different intake plumbing and different exhaust (like it did on 991.1 and 997.2. Well, except we didn't get ti con-rods).

FYI, love your car and your long write up on it and European delivery. Good read.
