Historically , it has always been the case that Porsche only utilized turbo motors in 911's for the Carrera Turbo and Turbo S and a few specialty derivatives, GT2/GT2RS, since really originating the distinction of the turbo approach through the 930 Carrera Turbo. And have been masterful at providing an absolutely distinctive model for decades. Through the years, this gave the Carrera Turbo models their special character amidst the other models in the range . So , regardless of how the brand and marketing execs want to spin it and promote the new turbo motor 911's, to me it is a shame and just another example of the current trend of diminishing 911 aura and character seemingly brought about by the need to meet emissions standards? I guess no one at Porsche could figure out an alternative approach?

I question the change only because I would have loved to see what the next generation N/A would have looked like. 450 hp possibly more. Similar advancements with retaining the classic sound and throttle response. Surely it's going to be missed by many.

Jimbo - I'm with you . We need a new cost approachable NA drivers car version as a regular in the model range. It is getting embarrassing out there. Two excerpts from a recent major car mag article comparing 17 Corvette GS vs 2017 911 S:
"Not exactly thrilling in normal driving, but this is, when rated as an automobile, an excellent car," he says. "This 911 offers shocking levels of performance for its engine size and output, and indeed it would make a comfortable, easy-to-live-with daily driver. But it's missing a lot of the excitement that would make it a great occasional-use sports car."
"I think that the issue of which one of these two cars is better partly comes down to a head-versus-heart battle," Lieberman says. "Logically speaking, I think the 911 makes great sense and would easily satisfy all of my everyday needs. The only problem is that I'd be daydreaming of driving the Grand Sport while I'm out grocery shopping in the Porsche."

Yes they do. I believe it was around $1300 at the end of 15 when I was in the market for one.
