unless the current shop comes back with an ridiculous price on the used shifter(ex. half price of a new one), I would not source my own. Let the shop take the chance that something is wrong with the replacement part.

Exactly. If you source the part yourself then they can always blame it on you if something doesn't work.
We've already been down the "I got the part myself" road once with this tale - it's definitely time to step back and let the car get fixed. I can only imagine how much more chaos a busted second-hand shifter would add to this already sordid take.
DC Auto had the part for around $300 and I already told the indie to go ahead and get it from them yesterday.
Also, the pile of parts did indeed match my cars serial number. So at some point, the old indie did indeed tear the transmission apart. Lol
As far as the attorney, we have one on retainer through work benefits. The only challenge she sees is getting a court to feel sympathetic for a 26 year old with enough money to have a Porsche as a second car. Lol.

KK, please learn from the other situation... make sure you drive the car thoroughly (i.e. highway speeds) before paying for the job. But my gut feeling is, it's going to be done right this time. Cheers!
p.s. take lots of photos of the car. You should document everything... this would make for a great PBS special! hahahaha
