Are your photos too big?
Do your photos mess up a thread by displaying too wide? Does the image of your filthy steering rack show more detail than you'd like? Are you concerned with your forum karma?
First, check if the "Image resizer" is turned on in your "User CP". The "Lytebox" choice is supposed to be the default, I believe.
If that doesn't work, or if you want to do it right, you'll have to reduce the width of your photos before uploading them. I do it this way, since some photos don't have to be as big as others, and I can crop out some of the filth at the same time. A good image editor will allow you to type in "1024" (or less) for image width in pixels, somewhere. Choosing "8 inches" won't work, since it might mean 8 times 300 pixels per inch - way too big; in that case, 3 inches would be about right.

Good advice. I was hoping there would be a setting on the viewer's end to automatically resize pictures posted by those who are too lazy to do it on their end before posting. Can't seem to find an option for that in the CP.
You would think a light bulb would go off when someone posts a picture so big that you can see individual carpet fibers, can't tell what it is you're supposed to be looking at and you need to scroll a mile left and right to read every response.

On my pc, I use microsoft image resizer, for win xp and older its s powertoy, for win 7/8 theres a third party version, both both integrate into folder menus the same way.
Allows u to batch resize.
Only time this fails is when i post from phone and attach. So i best turn on the tool in user cp. Didnt know about that.

I just email the photos to myself...Outlook then gives you the choice to re-size them in 3 different sizes (i pick the middle option). When they show up back in your mail box...the job is done!

Thanks for the thread. I've been tempted to use the abbreviation "tb;dl" for "too big; didn't look" when people post those pics that are bigger than the size of my screen. Some pics seem to be 3x wider and 3x taller and then there are multiple pictures. Forget it!
Crop and resize. It's a good thing.

Good to know it's not just me that gets grumpy when that happens.
Some pics you just cannot get the drift they are that big. I also use MS paint to resize the pics to a suitable format.

I use a free program called Fotosizer. The other benefit to this is that it lets you resize a group of photos instead of having to do them one at a time. Take the hi-res pics you like so you have them, store them in a folder, then create a subfolder in that same folder with the same name and add "resized" or "smaller versions" to the folder name. Fotosizer will take all the big photos in the main folder and copy the resized versions to the subfolder once you tell it the target destination. It's really easy. Then just use the subfolder when selecting the photos to upload to the forum.

Why was this moved? It should be a sticky. I have a 24" monitor and i get tired of scrolling to read the text in a post because its width has been dictated by a huge picture.
