Default What oil to use?

Folks in Canada and specifically in Vancouver, what oil do you use in your 997.1 Carrera S do you use?

I have been reading different info and I cannot find the right answer. Molly, Mobil 1, Shell, Castrol and then there is 0W-40, 5W-50, 10-W40

Can you please guide me?

Warning, you wading into very deep and turbulent waters

HERE is a list of Porsche approved oils. Look for A40 approval on the bottle.

Partsource has Pennzoil Euro 5w40 on sale time to time for $6.80/L. It's A40 approved and I have used it in my Boxster and 996. No issues and good pressure in both.

I always use Castrol Edge 5w-40 since it regularly goes on sale for ~$32 at Canadian Tire. It is Porsche A40 (and BMW) approved. I seems to keep the engine a little quieter than Mobile 1.

I've run Castrol 5w40 or 5w50 in all modern Porsche's for years now, no issues.
If it' more consolation, a couple 'local' dealers have recently made the switch to Castrol from Mobil and owners are reporting lower oil burn and quieter engines.
Rotella T6 5w40 is another great oil
I have VOA's of a few popular options....

Rotella T6 5w40 is a diesel-engine oil. Great oil; I use it in my truck, tractor and mower, but I don't think it's A40 approved.

Still lots of different answers

In cold climates like Vancouver, what do you guys recommend?

Any one uses liquid moly 5w-40?

I agree, likely no problem for the engine, but diesels oils are high on zinc, moly, etc and will destroy your catalytic converters.

I run Chevron Delo in all my aircooleds, even my Fiat tractor, I buy it by the pail, diesel oil is great stuff...but I won't run it in anything with a cat.

I haven't used it yet, but it looks like I can supply both for Liqui Moly and Motul brands
Both 5W40 synthetic oils are A40, the liquiMoly is a POA type IV full synthetic.

It's not A40...but it's proven to keep engines alive...
Diesel/classic/race formulas are allowed to have the good additive packages 'mainstream' oils cannot...

We primarily use Liqui Moly Lubricants at the shop but also stock Mobil 1 and Castrol for specific client needs.

Because Castrol is cheaper in bulk than M1 To be honest the price is bulk synthetic oil is very cheap but if you buying 5k liters per year and a supplier offers a competitive product for .75c-1$ cheaper per L you would be switching . Without getting into details about specific pricing but if you can store oil and split it amongst a group of 5-6 people buying in bulk will save you a ton of cash. Fill up a 50 Gallon Drum

Currently the best deal is the Castrol at Costco for 35$ a jug

To me Castrol is crap, nothing like it used to be back in the day. I won't even run it in my lawnmower.
