Changes to gathering limits

Due to the recent increase in cases and to ensure continued health and safety, there is a new limit on the number of people allowed to attend unmonitored social gatherings and organized public events across Ontario.

As of September 19, 2020, the new gathering limits are:

• indoor events or gatherings: 10 people (previous limit of 50)
• outdoor events or gatherings: 25 people (previous limit of 100)

Indoor and outdoor events and gatherings cannot be merged together.

"Here's a full breakdown of the new gathering rules:

• Private gatherings capped at 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors
• These limits only apply to unmonitored and private social gatherings, which include functions, parties, dinners, gatherings, BBQs or wedding receptions held in private residences, backyards, parks and other recreational areas
• Indoor and outdoor events cannot be merged together. For example, gatherings of 35 (25 outdoors and 10 indoors) are not permitted
• The new limits do not apply to events or gatherings held in staffed businesses and facilities, such as bars, restaurants, cinemas, convention centres, banquet halls, gyms, places of worship, recreational sporting or performing art events. Existing rules, including public health and workplace safety measures for these businesses and facilities, continue to be in effect"

• So you can't have more than 25 together outside but it okay to have say 100 inside at a factory or mall?

Two Saturdays ago, while there were under 20 cars and under 25 people, a Mississauga By-Laws Officer showed up wearing a badge, she indicated someone called in about a “gathering”, said she could issue citations but would allow us to disperse, someone challenged her if we could break up Into smaller groups and spread out in the parking lot, she said “that’s not how it works, it’s all of the parking lot” and advised us to break up into smaller groups and go to different parking lots.

While I felt like challenging her we did not have more than 25 people at the time, and if this enforcement applies to all the patrons to the stores in this location, I also didn’t feel like to be made an example of by her and be issued a citation, so just got into my car and left.
