Sorry to the Torontonians that had to deal with this but the videos in the link are some of the best raw comedy I've come across

The cab industry is dying and I personally would never get in a cab with the option to use uber at 1/2 the price with cars that arent falling apart

I feel for them Uber is illegal and by passing all the rules. If Uber is allowed, whats going to stop other copy cat apps and companies from doing the same. It not actually that complicated of an app or company to setup.

I argue if taxi fares were reasonable Uber would not exist. Cab are too expensive; once they fix that on whatever level they have to than Uber will vapourize.

Agreed. Taking a taxi in Toronto is offensively expensive compared to other big cities. No sympathy from me. Plus taxi drivers here are some of the worst drivers around.

Most of the Cabbies rent their cars from the companies who lease the licenses from several individuals who over the years bought them all up. They cost about $150 per year payable to the City, but the street price of them is well over $100K. Thats why Cab fares are high. Drivers are lucky to make minimum wage.

I can't argue that. It is expensive and so are a lot of things. Actually everything seems inflated and not of value. Maybe I am just too old and remember when things were not so expensive my own salary has not increased to keep up with paying for these things that keep going up. Salary raises have always been below inflation rate which means I have less and less every year to spend or to save.

So where does the city go to buy a clue? Eliminate the licenses and start over.

That would work, but have the city pay back all the money they collected selling the licenses to the poor suckers that will lose out when they change all the rules on them and screw the owners of them over.

It's not just Toronto. It standard practice across the country. The number of licenses are strictly regulated and drives up the street price of each license. That cost is then reflected in the lease the company pays. Uber is a game changer.

The monopoly is finally coming to an end I'm good with it.
Maybe now, because they have to, the can get out of the 70's.

Uber has a smart APP for hooking up with drivers.
The current taxi industry has to do better than have Dany Devito standing on a street corner waving down taxis.

Way to many industries have waited until technology makes them obsolete rather than utilizing technology to improve themselves.
Just look at what Amazon has done to the retail sector for example.
Retailers still haven't caught up.

I heard people all day complaining about dirty cabs. That part exists because most drivers don't own their cars where with Uber drivers, they do and they worry about their own personal property. Wouldn't you?

It'll be rough for a while but in the end, I think it'll all work out for everyone.
Drivers & passengers alike.

The taxi industry needs uber and other competition to take away their monopoly with dirty smelly cars, rude drivers that don't speak english, and are not accommodating.
the owners of the licenses have been making money hand over fist, they will not suffer. things change deal with it.

Omg that one dude saying "uber is ISIS" was hilarious,

Seriously, they operate a sub par service at high prices and wonder why business is declining.
