Here's a mistake I did... the type of mistake you make ONCE in your life.....
Changed the oil and filter on my '71 Econoline. Filled it up with the requisite 7 quarts of oil. Went to start it up, and realized I had left the drain plug in the old oil pan.
So, all 7 quarts were now all over the ground. A huge mess! And, it was my only vehicle at the time, so I had to walk miles to and from the parts store to get another 7 quarts.

So, all 2 quarts were now all over the ground. A huge mess! And, it was my only vehicle at the time, so I had to walk miles to and from the parts store to get another 7 quarts.

Do NOT assume that the gas filler and diesel filler are different size on cars in Europe....I came close to disaster last week when I went to fill up a Renault diesel and realized that I has pumping gas into it. Luckily I only put a few litres in and then changed to diesel and no harm was done........

.. changed oil after trip to beach house, car filled with fresh oil. Started engine. Oil warning light. Look under car, nothing... check oil - empty. Scratching head, re-fill with oil... start engine, oil warning light, look under car, nothing... check oil - empty. Check drain plug - missing. Realize parked on sand, oil seeping in with no puddles. DOH!

Had to park outside one night, raining like crazy, so I put a garbage bag under the decklid to keep rainwater off the engine. Forgot to remove it in the morning when I started the car and the fan belt ate it up.

Left locking lock nut socket on side of H40, West of Mtl after tire change in heavy downpour, car loaded to the gills with 4 people and a black Lab.
Realized dumpshyte mistake when arrived in Ottawa and could not remove the spare donut rim.
Next day, girl friend then, now wife, decided to drive back to Mtl in her car, in the off-chance I would remember the location of the tire change and that the lock socket would STILL be there .... and IT WAS!!!!
