Default 991 price negotiation in Canada

So, the Cabs are in our Canadan dealerships and wife had given the thumbs up to start shopping for a 991 cabriolet with pdk. I have read from this very forum that some in the US had managed to get 5% off MSRP for the 991. What are the chances I would get the same here in Canada...more specifcally, in Ontario?

Good luck. US gets a huge allocation , Canada i assume is probably very small. If you want the latest they will make you pay. My 2 cents.

^^ Agreed. I doubt anyone could answer this question with 100% certainty. I would go to the dealership. Go through the motions. Put down a creditcard and offer 5% off MSRP take it or leave it. Maybe they'll go for it.

Question is why would dealers drop their pants on a car that just came out, and every body wants?

I think there is a good chance, even though the 991 just came out. It doesn't hurt to ask. I got 5% off a 997 C2S and a 997 Turbo. The C2S was dealer spec'd and en route from Germany when I bought it. The 997 Turbo was ordered to my specs and I still got 5%. They seem to have a lot of inventory and still make decent profit at 5% off. Both my cars were from Downtown. I didn't have much luck at Pfaff.

Indeed I have heard that Downtown is the lesser of the two evils. Anyone had any good experience with Porsche London Ontario in regards to discount? Hoping smaller towners would be more lenient? I also acknowledge that this not a good season to negotiate a Cab.. sigh. Perhaps I should wait or put an order for a 2013 and hopefully get a 5% discount.

On second thought, I am not sure Porsche of London offer the new 991... their inventory is mostly older models.

You don't know if you don't ask. The worst they can say is no.

Yea they offer the 991, have three or four in inventory and I'm sure they would match pricing from another Canadian dealer. They may even do a deal on the ones in stock ?

Great dealings with them, first class co.

They have a beautiful white 991 sitting on a display ramp outside. I see it everyday. It looks sooo nice.

They might be willing to deal more than the GTA dealers because their inventory might sit longer due to fewer customers this way. Just a guess though.

Edit: according to their website, they have 10 991's in their current inventory, 4 of them are cabs.

Porsche of London is Pfaff owned so I would expect a similar experience.

I think 5% is very doable, there is significant margins on these cars and they may have limited inventories but they still have to move the units. I would be very suprised to hear they let you walk on an offer of 5 points off.

According to every car salesman I've ever talked to, margins on all cars are negligible. Some dealerships only make money on after-sales service.

Default Porsche of London

Porsche of London is actually owned by Chris leavens and Pfaff has some interest in the store. Leavens operates this place and has been in business for over 53 years in London with the VW dealership n First Street.

Our service department has been ranked #1 in Canada for over 12 months as well as our sales department which is an incredible feat since we opened on September 7, 2010.

We have great inventory available on site and open allocation on certain models. Give us a call 519-601-1322.

Talk to John Lee at Downtown Porsche. Not sure if he can give you anything off, but if anyone can get you a fair deal, it's him. He's a salesperson with integrity; my experience has been that he's in it for the long term relationship with you rather than making one quick sale.

I am not convinced any front line sales people have any say or pull on the price, other than conveying the buyers message appropriately. In working with sales reps at Downtown and Pfaff, it was the same deal, in fact they outright said they have no say approval authority on a deal. Best to just deal with management.

If you are dead serious, as in if they gave you the deal you want you'd sign - I'd say go in and test the waters, start a bit higher if you hope to end with 5%. If you want to test it further, shop a dealer you wouldn't do business with....perhaps Ottawa Porsche, Montreal etc.
