Default I need a (convertible) car - NOW into the real world

Adrian's car search:

<edited>

OK fellow Rennlisters,

I have shoirt listed my previous list and had a look at some real world prices,
by RWP I mean checking out some cars on AT

I've disregarded the Boxster as it is only a 2 seater,

and from the poll the M3 is looking like the hot contender.

ok, here is a list (not in order) details at end of thread

2005 BMW M3 convertibe $25k 93km
2002 Porsche 911 C4 Cab $27k
2008 BMW 1 series convertible $26k 51km
2008 VW EOS $21k 68km

other than the EOS which is soming in under budget, real world prices looking not so good amd millage especailly with the M3 going over.

feel free to poke holes in my idea

Have not had a chance to check insurance so thats a big call as well as MPG

ta !

Default 2001 Porsche 996 (911) Tip 3.6cc

320bhp

"The Porsche 996 is the internal designation for the Porsche 911 model manufactured and sold between 1998 and 2005.

"Engine failure, First, it’s important to point out that it is the early 3.4-litre engines, made from 1998 to 2000, that are most susceptible to major failure. The later 3.6-litre engine is pretty much-problem free."

PROS: Porsche nuff said,

CONS: gas consumption, insurance, (is it a 2 seater? if so then that might be a problem)

If you must have a 4 seater, go with the BMW.

Another vote for the M3 if 4 seats and/or storage space is important. Otherwise the boxster.

sorry to start this but you should possibly consider a newer BMW 1 series. Newer should mean less will break, 4 reasonable seats, drives really well especially if you can swing a 135...some like the looks some don't. Won't put you to sleep like the eos will.

Thanks Guy's,

so far its

M3
996
EOS
and in last The Boxster

Not really what I expected...

so, as regards to forums, garages, maintenance, what is the BM like?
being in the Porsche fold for so long, is like jumping into a different ocean

Thanks

NO, no, not at all,
thanks for the input,

The other decision, is putting $20k into a "used" car, here it seems everything has to be new, new house, new cars etc and that is how my wife kinda thinks too.

I agree with the less break and at least with a w'tee

cheer

Adrian,
Why not get a 5-dr GTi? Brilliant car. I'm sure you could get a nice used one for $22K.
