Jim, would the weight of the car pressing down on the bars and jack stands not be adequate?

The ends of the lift bars fit over the factory jack points, so there is no way that they can slip off once the weight is on there. Ken actually makes two models because the jack points were changed slightly mid 1986 on the 928 so he made sure the bar was adapted appropriately.

Personally I use 6 ton jack stands with a hockey puck between the stand and jack point and I am super **** about the stand and puck being centered perfectly on the jack point.

I may just be paranoia on my part, and I've spent some time under a car sitting on jack stands and even with the scissor lift I worry sometime.

I like the hockey puck idea too as far as damage to the under side of the car but there is no proper engineered area for the puck,... the thought "man killed by own car because of hockey puck" keeps poping into my mind.

The whole issue I have been having with jack stands is that they are designed to go under a round axle and not a jack point on a Porsche. If you don't put something in there the car won't sit on the stand properly. I used to use pieces of 2x3 but they would split, the pucks are much tougher. They flex just enough to conform to the shape of the stand and the jack point.

Yeah Brad that's the plan for sure . although i like the idea of johns two poster and would love to go that way i think the scissor is going to be the way to go as i have a room above the garage anyway. Will be worth it for changing the wheels alone

You won't regret a scissor lift at almost any price - the first time you change wheels, or even for cleaning rims and tires - your back will thank you. Like I said, this past summer of track days - detailing was very enjoyable. 2k was a little more than I wanted to spend but in the end - garage heaven.

** so enough debate - go get yourself one -

Petee, if you want to buy locally, the Maxjax is sold at Princess Auto, they have one on display at the Mississauga store.

I bought a used Hydra-lift ( two post ), 9k capacity. A shop was moving here in town and got a very good deal.

I have a lift and it's great, but I can't take it to the track. Even at home I prefer the stands for brake and suspension work. It's just easier to move around the car than my 4 poster. As the stand inventor I'm not without bias about using the stands. But I agree - true under car work (like exhaust work on a turbo) - you can't beat a lift. If you decide to shop U.S. for a lift - look at Greg Smith equipment. I have no connection - but I've seen his stuff. good for the money. Shipping to the great north? I don't know, but the web site says distribution throughout USA and Canada.
